When I was a youngster, I always thought of this as being "that Superman song." But when I got older, I realized how great the lyrics are; it's about seeing the other side of a tale; how, in our minds, Superman is the ideal embodiment of happiness and power that everyone aspires to be; yet, the reality is that perhaps he never ever existed. It's possible that the "genuine" Superman has a fear of flying, suffers from loneliness, is weighed down by the responsibility of his own power, and lives forever but dies alone. The image of Superman is meant to represent how people viewed the world when they did not look deeper than the surface. We discovered that those naive dreams are not what they seem to be, that life is just the way it is, that it's not easy but it's okay; we grew up, we failed, we made errors, we got rejected, battered, and disappointed; we fell in love; we found a family; and we learned that it's okay.
