Today I saw a broken trunk of a banana tree and I was impressed how it was inside. I did a little research and it turns out that the banana is not a tree, but a megaforbia, a large perennial herb. It lacks a true trunk. Instead, it has leaf sheaths that develop into structures called pseudostems, similar to vertical shafts up to 30 cm in basal diameter that are not woody, and reach 7 m in height. Here's the photo, I took it. They are like channels. How perfect is nature! -----------------------‐-------------------------- Hoy vi un tronco roto de un árbol de guineo y me impresionó cómo era por dentro, averigüé un poco y resulta que el banano no es un árbol, sino una megaforbia, una hierba perenne de gran tamaño. Carece de verdadero tronco. En su lugar, posee vainas foliares que se desarrollan formando estructuras llamadas pseudotallos, similares a fustes verticales de hasta 30 cm de diámetro basal que no son leñosos, y alcanzan los 7 m de altura.
