It's no secret. We are all going online because there are so many benefits. Believing cybersecurity lies can endanger your business. Today I'll address some myths. If you are sick and tired of people saying browse safely, then read below. LIES about CYBERSECURITY Myth 1: We are a small company; they won't hack us. ME: If you make money, you're a target. But keep deceiving yourselves. Small companies are the target of 43% of all data breaches. Last year, cyber-attacks hit 61% of small businesses. At least the attackers know the door is open over there. #hahaha Myth 2: We use strong passwords. Me: No matter how creative you get with the password, someone is devoting 24/7 to breaking your super sweet, weak password. #rofl Myth 3: We are offline so that we won't get hacked. ME: do you have a smartphone? Do you have flash storage with your CV or resume saved on it? Oh, you just borrowed your friend. #sideeye. Do you have social media with your school listed? I'm sure you still keep all of your money inside Bible or under your pillow and never use a bank. No Wahala, keep staying old-fashion. Myth 4: Anti-virus(AV) is good enough. ME: Do you know that AV only protects what it knows about? What about the virus released today #dayzero? Remember the last update that you ignored? Or do you mean the free AV that gets lots of pop-ups, and you disable it? #bre-mbre Myth 5: Transformers can't be hacked. Only computers get hacked. ME: Do you know that the transformer can be hacked to give power to everyone BUT the GRA? The transformer is an Industrial Control System ICS. Hacking ICS is a big business and made $100 million in 2020. #tiedo! It will take months to restore. #stuxnet Myth 6: We are an oil industry, and we don't need cybersecurity. ME: Did you hear about the Colonial pipeline hack last year? Do you think petrol prices are high? Wait till the shortage reaches your side. #fuelPriceIncreaseWillGreetU Myth 7: We have good security practices at work: ME: But you also have people. Do you know that humans are the weakest link? Did you know they installed an app on their system to make work easier and faster...but that app collects everyone's passwords from the system? #keylogger There are many issues to solve in cyber as more businesses are going online, and the solution is multi-faceted.
