Seth’s 6th Birthday Plans and Failures
My nephew Seth turned six yesterday. Normally, our family would be going to a resort to celebrate the three family members' birthdays, my niece, Zaila who celebrates her birthday on the 10th, then Seth on the 16th, and then my husband who celebrates his birthday on the 18th.
This year, we decided to celebrate it on the 10th, and we went to Anda Pearl Premier Resort but since we were all at home yesterday, we decided to make a simple celebration for Seth.
My plan was to do a pool party, we have an inflatable pool at home which was stored when the Odette happened. So I thought maybe we can use that and then I will buy some balloons and a tinsel curtain as a background, and some happy birthday balloons.
By the afternoon, around two, I asked my brother to drive us so we could buy the things we needed. We first went to get some cash but then the machine returns some errors. We headed to three more machines but the same thing was showing, it seems like the first step was already giving us some resistance in proceeding with our plans. I ended up asking for some cash from my father, he gave me 1000 bills and my husband also gave me cash. I don’t have enough cash with me but I guess we can work on that amount.
With the cash on hand, we went first to Sticky Buns to buy a cake. We opted for the small Chocolate Ganache, this was the same cake I ordered when we celebrated at Anda Pearl but this time, it’s a smaller one worth Php 350, we asked that they write Seth @ 6 on the cake, later on, I appreciated that we ordered the small size. It was just enough for the family.
Then we headed to buy some decorations and balloons. We went to Luka Magic which was just along the highway. We got five pieces of metallic blue balloons, another five metallic silver, and five pieces of this clear balloon with some confetti inside. Then we asked for the number 6 balloon, the tinsel curtains, two of them, and a happy birthday balloon set. I also found a set of candles which according to the staff would be a fun one because its light wouldn’t go off as long as the candle is not fully consumed. So I got that and I paid a total of 560 pesos.
Finally, we only have one more task, to buy ice cream. We went to several stores and were only able to get a couple of tubs in the public market. It was hard finding ice cream these days, I wonder why.
And so it was time to set up everything. My brother went to get the pool inflated but we were really disappointed to find out that it has holes in it and thus, our plan of a pool party can’t be realized. I was disappointed even more when the tinsel curtain that I put up was torn. I was tired already and so I decided to stop anything that I was doing and just rest.
I slept and was awakened around six in the evening. My baby was also sleeping with me and we woke up at the same time!
I was surprised as the torn tinsel curtain was set up again! It was my sister-in-law who taped it back. Then, I found out they had already set up the dinner table for a boodle fight! There were grilled tuna fish, pork belly, lumpia, fruits like mango, and watermelon.
I was delighted to see that the celebration continues even without the initial plan. So we ended up taking photos and videos instead for our little Hijo!
It was a night of fun as we dined in with our bare hands, we also shared a lot of stories over the table, then there was a videoke session afterward. Of course, that’s necessary for a birthday celebration.

Perhaps, it was beyond what you had planned. At least, no mess on such an important day. Happy Birthday, Seth.
