When I was young, making mistakes make me feel bad. I start beating myself up mentally because I made some mistakes. However, even worse are people who blame the world for their mistakes. Because when you blame the world, you're not acknowledging the mistakes and that means you will keep making the same mistakes over and over again. And then you'll start saying things like, "Bad things always happen to me. I am born with bad luck, which is why all the bad things happen to me." As I grew older, I learnt a better way to deal with mistakes and bad decisions. I asked myself, what can I learn from it and how can I be better? I accept that making mistakes and wrong decisions are part of being a human being. This simple way of thinking paves the way for me to improve as a human over time, making less and less mistakes, without beating myself up unnecessarily. In other words, when I was young, I see mistakes as problems to be avoided. As I got older, I see mistakes as opportunities to be acknowledged and embraced, like a friend. This is also something I learnt from Dalai Lama when he said that the only way you can practice mastery over your emotions is when you meet people who piss you off. That's the only opportunity for you to practice mastery over your anger or other negative emotions. You can't practice anger management when you're happy. You can only put that into practice when you're angry. Do not let your past become a burden to your future. You don't need to improve drastically overnight. A small 1% improvement per day compounded leads to a 3600% improvement over a year. That's also why I try to improve a little bit each day, because I know it adds up. And I hope you do too.
