*"At the heart of Dhaka stands the dream, generosity, and sacrifice of one family."* *When the newly elected Vice President of DUCSU, along with the victors, visited the graves of the Nawab family of Dhaka, my heart felt lighter and my eyes filled with tears. How ungrateful we are! The state spends millions to celebrate countless days and organize hundreds of birth anniversaries—yet we have almost cast into oblivion the Nawab family, upon whose selfless sacrifices, donations, and dreams stand today’s center of our education and culture.* *The very institutions that now form the heart of Dhaka—Dhaka University, BUET, Dhaka Medical College, Dhaka College, Eden College, the High Court, the Secretariat, Ramna Park, and large parts of Suhrawardy Udyan—all stand on land donated by the Nawab family.* *The brightest star of this family was Nawab Sir Khwaja Salimullah. He was not just a landlord; he was a visionary leader, education enthusiast, and social reformer.* 🌿 *He dreamed of kindling the torch of higher education—a dream that took shape in Dhaka University.* 🌿 *To advance Muslim education, he followed the path of the Aligarh Movement and took initiatives to spread modern education.* 🌿 *He was one of the founding members of the All-India Muslim League, from where the Pakistan Movement began.* 🌿 *He made immortal contributions to women’s education, the welfare of the poor, and social reforms.* 🌿 *Through his efforts, Dhaka became the cultural and political center of East Bengal.* *His son, Nawab Khwaja Habibullah, along with other successors, also played valuable roles in education and social welfare, but we have let their names gather dust in the pages of history.* *Today, the new leadership of DUCSU has reminded us of that forgotten history. Salute and respect to Sadiq Qaiyum and Farhad. You have not only achieved victory, but have also bound us in gratitude to our lost history and heritage.* *Newly elected (VP) Dhaka University* ───────────────────────────────
