These ancient bristlecone pine trees are very much a living, biologic organism, but their lifespans are almost geologic. If this tree had not been anchored to this gravelly hillside for the last 5,000+ years, would it have traveled to observe some of humanity's defining moments? And I wonder, is it somehow aware of all that has gone on around it?
