this looks like a fancy soft coral but it’s actually a well-camouflaged weedy scorpionfish. 🦂 A nocturnal ambush hunter, this fish rarely swims, preferring instead to remain motionless while waiting for an unsuspecting prey to be within striking distance. Once the prey is within reach, the scorpionfish will lunge forward to suck in its victim. Besides its excellent camouflage, the weedy scorpionfish has highly venomous spines for added protection. The weedy scorpionfish can stay at the same spot for weeks or even months while waiting to ambush prey. Now that’s dedication! 📸 Alex Tyrrell
