How many sardines could there be in this sardine run? With their sheer number, it’s almost impossible to count, but there could be millions. And this should always be the case — sardine populations should remain plenty at sea. Besides being an important fish food for Filipinos, sardines are also part of the diet of many marine animals. Throughout the years, however, sardine populations in the Philippines have been on a decline due to overfishing. With the proposed House Bill (HB) 7853 seeking to allow commercial fishing within municipal waters, our sardine populations could be further endangered.
