On this day we Abuyognons resound our fiesta in honour of St. Francis Xavier.
Abuyog is hometown to a very sweet and yummy delicacy called moron. Itโs a glorious chocolaty rice cake wrapped in the usual banana leaf and shaped like a sinful, promising bulge. Tourists from Leyte usually buy moron as aย pasalubong or gift for their relatives and friends. It is usually served at festivals, birthdays and parties.ย Visitors from those parties usually takes home some of the moron. The food is also a medium of exchange for goodwill in the nearby municipalities.
Meanwhile, the Abuyog Tribe joined the Aliwan Festival, the country's national competition of the best festivals in the Philippines and managed to win as the grand champion, thus making the Buyogan Festival the source of pride of Abuyog, Leyte.
Though the celebration has become simple, quite and much different from the previous years due the pandemic still it is celebrated by every household. Nevertheless, fiesta celebration is not all the blast and fun but rather thanking the most Gracious and St. Francis Xavier for blessing and protecting our town from all calamities and unfortunate events.
