Crocodiles (lat. Crocodilia) are an order of tropical predators. Along with birds, they are the only surviving "descendants" of a large group of reptiles, Archosauria. Therefore, their recent closest relatives are birds. Their kinship is provable by a whole range of features, but above all by the structure of the blood circulation system. Because of their bone armor, crocodiles are also called armored lizards.
