Banana is a favorite fruit of many and offers us endless opportunities for consumption both in its raw form - fruit salads, drinks and purees, as well as in countless sweet temptations, desserts and sauces. This fruit has a good nutritional value and contains many useful substances for the body, such as are fiber, vitamins C, B6, carbohydrates and minerals, most of which is potassium. If we often include bananas in our diet, they will reward us by improving circulation, reducing bad cholesterol, fighting depression and eliminating indigestion, and last but not least, fighting cancer cells. However, only overripe bananas have this last property. . Depending on the degree of ripeness, this fragrant fruit drastically changes the values of some of the nutrients it contains, but mostly retains the content of minerals and vitamins. It also keeps the same number of calories, whether they are green and hard or soft and overripe bananas. If we are aware of this, we will know in which cases it is good to eat overripe bananas and in which green ones. That way we will reap all the benefits and not face any harm. Green bananas consist almost mainly of resistant starch, which the body breaks down slowly and gradually, while in overripe fruit with a darkened appearance of the skin, all this starch turns into simple sugars - sucrose, composed of glucose and fructose. This makes the fruit quickly digestible and increases glycemic index. The riper the banana is, the higher this index is and therefore it is digested faster. An overripe banana provides the body with an almost instant burst of energy and is very useful after active sports, when we need to regain strength and recharge. That's why you should never throw this fruit away, even if its darkened skin is not very attractive to look at. It is important to remember that due to the high content of sugar, glucose and fructose, overripe bananas are not suitable for people suffering from diabetes, and those who are overweight, it is recommended to eat bananas in more limited doses. You can see for yourself that it is not definitely clear whether an overripe banana is useful or harmful, but when you know the pros and cons, you know when and if you can afford to include it in your menu.
