Turkish carnation Carnations, cloves - Dianthus are a genus of about 300 species from the family Caryophyllaceae, originating mainly from southern Europe and Asia. The name Dianthus is a derivative of the Greek words Dios - god and Anthos - flower, which means flower of the gods. And indeed, of the many of its qualities that make it a divine flower, I would call their fragrance divine in the first place. Most plants of this genus are perennials, only some are annuals or biennials.
