As research advances, more and more is known about Covid-19. It's still far from all, however. People have many questions, and so have the scientist working with it. Media is full of speculation, at times hard to separate from facts. People are confused. Some apply the ostrich method, to put the head in the sand and pretend everything is as usual – what I use to call "compulsory denial of danger" – others get in panic, consumed by fear. Panic is a bar to rational thinking, a cause of misconception. The world is in a mess.
Politicians have not been of any help (are they ever?). Unwilling to see the seriousness of the threat, they (as usual) delayed doing something until it was too late. Had they swiftly closed everything down, this epidemic would have never reached out from China - and if it had, a few isolated cases had been easy to take care of. After a few weeks, everything could have been opened again. But you won't get re-elected if you seal a country and shut down the economy, the trade and peoples' lives - so (as usual), when positive political action could (for once) have done something good, they all delayed action until it was too late to avoid chaos. When they realised how serious it is, they took some cosmetic measures, but still insufficient to stop the epidemic.
If there is anything this crisis shows, it is the total impotence of politics. The bad side is that people don't realise this. If they get free masks from the government, they feel taken care of; they don't ask why the government did not protect them from a situation where they would need the masks. I'm sure that afterwards, when all this is over, politicians will boast over how well they did handle this pandemic and how they saved the world. A lot of people will believe them!
Saved the world? My ass! If they had any guts, any real leader instinct, they would have prevented this crisis from ever appearing and it wouldn't have killed thousands of people. But they are impotent hypocrites, anxiously manoeuvring through every day with the eyes focussed on one thing only: the preservation of their own power – afraid of taking any step whatsoever, no matter how needed, that might seriously alienate the majority of the electorate.
The extension of this epidemic is a direct result of political indecisiveness!

It feels like your writings are timeless ;-; but this is the truth. The very frustrating truth. The politicians don't honestly care about the country's affairs simply because it's not their specialization to. It makes me wonder if the government system would be different if specialists from each respective field were actually chosen and not just the popular figures
