I.
It is quite common to face inconsistency of opinions. One and the same individual holds two incompatible opinions. That always disturbs me.
One example is about health care. A lot of people, myself included, dislike the state's regulation of health care; that politicians may decide what is acceptable practice and what is not, which medicines one may use or not use, and so forth. Not to speak about attempts to regulate how people should live. What they may eat or not eat, if they are allowed to destroy their health with smoking and drinking, and much more.
The same people often want public health insurance and health care, and expect the state to help them when they are ill. (This is often compulsory and then you cannot do anything about it, but that doesn't have to mean that you desire it. That's health fascism, you are forced into it, and that's something else entirely. I am talking about people who desire public health insurance or health care.)
If you are one of those, ask yourself this: why should you retain the responsibility for how you live if you refuse to take responsibility for the consequences of that way of life?
There are only two reasonable positions in this matter. Either you reject the state's involvement completely, or you admit its involvement completely. That is, if you want the state to help you when you are ill, you must also accept that it regulates your life in detail in order to minimise the need for health care (as they see it). If you deny the state's right to regulate your lifestyle, you must also decline its help to handle the consequences. Either you take full responsibility for yourself, or the state has it. It cannot be shared, and especially, it cannot be shared in a way where you are allowed to destroy your health while someone else, in this case the state, must clean up the mess you create, or pay for having the mess cleaned up.
It all boils down to the Nanny State. Either we affirm it or we reject it. We cannot affirm some aspects of it and reject others.
Private health insurance doesn't solve this problem either. That would still be forwarding responsibility to someone else, an insurance company, and that “someone else” would have at least the moral right, if not obligation, to direct how you live as well.
If you think the state and its politicians understand what is good for your health and that they are competent regulators, read below about the “experts” they use.
II.
If you have been following mainstream media, you have heard many warnings about supplements. They are claimed to be dangerous or worthless. Incompetently made studies are used to show that vitamins are more or less without effect.
Political efforts are made to prohibit or restrict access to these supplements. Yet a large number of studies all over the world, as well as numerous individual case studies, show that vitamins, and to some extent other supplements, can protect very well against ageing and disease as well as free radicals. They can accelerate healing and stimulate various systems. So why is the establishment fighting them so intensively? The answer is - of course - money!
Heart surgery, just to mention one example, is a multimillion industry. A large number of surgeons are making huge profits by operating on hearts. Most of these operations, maybe as many as 90%, should never be needed, and could have been prevented by supplements and a good lifestyle. This is something the surgeons want to suppress. They are guarding their huge incomes and their prestige.
Pharmaceutical companies are making enormous profits on patented and expensive medicines, which are often without any decisive effect and often with dangerous side-effects. In terms of money, this is the fourth industry of the world. These companies do not want it to be known that many of the ailments their expensive drugs cure, or claim to cure, can be as well or better cured by - for instance - C-vitamin, without any side-effects. It is not surprising then, that they will want to suppress that fact or even disrepute the vitamin, which is a cheap substance that cannot be patented. There is no money in it!
Then note that a major part of medical research is done in the laboratories of the same drug companies. They design the studies to be made, so in many ways they can control the result, or what is being published of the result. They do not search for knowledge and they are not interested in your health. They are companies, and they are created for one purpose only: for profit!
Their dream is a population of individuals with chronic disease. Not dying, but in need of care and drugs for years and years. Then the money is rolling!
What is even worse, these companies provide a majority of the so called "experts" that are used as advisers to the lawmakers. This is dirty in the extreme!
