Dr. Szasz believed that mental illness is a metaphor and that civil commitment and the insanity defense form the foundations of psychiatric slavery. Szasz wrote a book Suicide Prohibition which logics as to why suicide should be respected as a civil and human right for all adults when it is done in private. Szasz wrote a book insanity that logics why the insanity defense should be outlawed. Szasz and I both believe that there should be a separation of psychiatry and state, just like there is a separation of church and state.
