Have you ever had that feeling of hearing a word being said and felt that it was meant for you? Have you been in a church service and the pastor who was talking to a congregation made an utterance that was not directed at anybody particularly, but somehow you just had this conviction in your spirit that the word was meant for you?

I was watching a movie today, a very nice movie that I think everyone should see, it's called the blacklist. It's a movie about a criminal Mastermind who would do anything for his daughter but it turns out that she's not even his real daughter but still he protects her with all he's got, up to the point of surrending himself to the FBI and held in their custody. It's a really dramatic movie!

I'm sorry for digressing, my apologies. I actually brought up the movie because in one of the scenes, a statement was made that caught my attention and I immediately decided then and there that I was going to write an article about it. This statement goes like this;

"People are just people, there are not good or bad"

I know that right now after reading the above statement you'd think it is flawed and baseless. After taking out time to dwell on it, it began to make more sense to me.

What's the Sense in it?

Really, what you make out of the above statement depends on how you see people. How I chose to explain this may differ from what you have in mind but I have a feeling that we might arrive at the same conclusion, or not!

What really differentiates us from one another is not that we have different faces and physique but the characters and attributes that we possess, which are a product if our environment and the circumstances that we've been through in life.

People don't just decide to be bad, they are either bad because they were born into in and it's the only thing that they know how to do best, they've seen their parents do it, they've done it a trillion times and it's now part and parcel of them.

Another reason could be that it's their only chance at survival. They have to do what they do to keep their body and soul together. What we fail to realize or consider is that most times these folks do not enjoy what they do but to them, they have no other options left open.

Most people who are good just don't even know why they are good, they just find themselves doing what they do, because just like being bad can be a part of who someone is, being good is too.

It's funny how a person can be good to one and bad to another. So I won't be wrong if I said that there are no good and bad people, there are just people.

A serial killer who takes the life of a man and gets paid for it can take this money to the orphanage and give to a bunch of kids. Now to the dead man's family, this serial killer is the worst man on the planet while to the orphanage, he has just blessed them.

No matter how good or bad a man is, he will be loved as well as hated by many. This brings to light the truth in the statement " you can never please everyone". Even if you take away their problems and give them peace with nothing else to strive for, the moment they feel bored and jobless, they'd probably think you did it for your own selfish interest and just find something to hate you for.

It's easy to judge someone else when you're not in their shoes and you've not experienced half the things they have, so it's easy to judge them from afar.

What we think!

One way or another we are all really guilty of jumping to conclusions and thinking that people could have made better choices than what they made, or wear more appropriate clothings than what they have on.

By whose standard are we supposed to judge what's good or bad anyway? Yours, mine, Paul's, John's, society's? Really whose definition holds true? We really don't know. We let our personal take on things cloud our judgement of what's bad or good, emphasis on what's bad really. But then again, who made it our job to judge?

Like how someone would say it's bad to wear slippers to church. If you can't wear it to the office where you work, why should you wear it to church?

In the real sense, what's wrong with wearing what you want to wear to church?. This person See's something wrong because of his or her definition of right and wrong.

This is how the society has been affected and made to believe or should I say tag somethings that aren't worth being classified as bad bad!

Author's Epilogue

As much as I think what we've been through and experienced largely shapes us into the people we are, still dosen't mean that it's okay to leverage on this fact to do or be something that by every standard can be tagged as bad.

What's constant in life is change and it's open for all. Someone might say " if irrespective of what I do, I'd still end up either good or bad to different sets of people, what then is the need to try?" I have the perfect response for you( or so I think) define yourself then. Ask yourself what you think about yourself and I'm sure you'd tell yourself the truth.

I really hope I have not confused you in today's article, I really appreciate you reading. You're awesome!

You're right about this... people are good and bad at the same time, they can be good to one person and also be an enemy to another and vice versa.

True are people depend on who's judging them. That's why it's good to know what you are doing so you won't be misled by people's perspectives of good. .

Good and bad are relative, and varies from one individual to another. Although, there are universal good and bad. And a person is said to be 'universally bad' when they are consistent in doing the things that are universally bad. Also, there is a difference between a TV show/series and a movie. The Blacklist does not fall under the movie category
