Support system

Many times we face difficult situations and circumstances in our different spheres of life that pays no attention to status or influence. No matter the age, gender, size or colour, we each have gone through or are presently going through one challenge or the other at the same time or at different points in our lives.

While some of us faced these situations head on and struggled to resolve and overcome them with all of our strength and might, others had or got one form of help or the other from friends, family, the police even their enemies might have helped in times of need.

Having a support system is more than what anyone can ask for really, it makes achieving things easy as well as reduces strife and stress. It's just pure Bliss if you ask me. Tell me what's better than having a shoulder to cry on when you need one, knowing someone would come running when you called, having that surety that in your weakness strength lies ahead. Can life get any better really?

Constituents of a support system

There is really no guaranteed list of people to make up one's support system, neither is there a limit to the number of persons that should constitute a support system as it is inclusive of all you can think of.

That means one's immediate or extended family can be their support system, it could be an ex boyfriend or girlfriend whom one has ended things with long ago, it could be one's pastor in church or a family friend or a colleague, your lecturer, really the list is endless and if I were to continue I wouldn't be able to exhaust it all.

These people can be a part of your support system if they help out when you need them.

Often times, we only refer to monetary handouts as support and really I find this amusing. We are all just too money conscious and I don't blame us for it, it's the times that we find ourselves in.

Support is more than just financial assistance, it is about everything else even up to the little things that we say or think do not matter, they do matter and they are supportive!

The man who gives the you $10 and the man who you can call at any time to pick you up are both part of your support system. They may not be giving the same amount at the same time, dosen't mean one is less of a support compared to the other.

If you have such a mindset of measuring support in level of financial worth, then I'm sorry to say but you are ungrateful. The value chain dosen't measure money against all else, that's a flawed system is you ask me.

Don't always get, give!

As much as we all want to be supported in all of our endaevours and most especially when things are taking a down turn, we should also consider being a support to someone else.

The take, take and take mindset that our generation is fully built on these days, is one of the reasons why societal development is hitting the rocks as nobody wants to give out to a greater cause but we all just want to benefit the rewards.

If you have friends or family or loved ones who stand by you, you should be able to go out of your way to do it for them too. Not just them alone but for other people, just the same way others have done for you. This simple act is what in my childhood days was termed the "GOLDEN RULE".

That is do unto others what you want others to do unto you!

People are worth more than tools or should I say pawns on your chessboard that you should move anyhow you want them, they are more than that and they deserve better from you. Manipulating people into helping you out and not being willing to do same is just an outright hypocritical way to live life and it should stop!

Author's Epilogue

The people who go out of their way to help you are not fools who do not have better use of their resources and time, they just value you and consider you as part of their life and want to see you succeed.

Finding people to be a part of your support system is not an easy thing, so if you've got one, treat it like the rare diamond that it is, so you don't lose it.

Remember you don't know the value of what you have until you lose it.

As for me, as much as possible, I don't want to just rely on these people. I instilled in my mind that, they will not always there to support or help me out in times of trouble. That, I should have what it takes to survive on my own. Good writing sis! :))
