Presentfully Absent

Today is the day that Christians have set aside to mark the resurrection of Christ Jesus. Apparently today he rose again from the dead after he was killed and buried for our sins and guilt.

As Jesus has risen, all our sins have been laid to death with him and he rose up without them making us whole. We christians have so much joy in our hearts today because our Christ has risen from the dead like he said.

You'd definitely find different categories of people in our churches today. Just as our faces are different, so also are the reasons why we go to church.

It would be wrong to assume that we all go to church to praise and worship God, which ought to be our primary goal but humans and their never ending thirst for adventure will always want to multi task, after all they are higher creatures.

There are the fashion gang who make sure to wear their newest attire to church so that everyone can see and know that they are amongst the trending league. You can actively see them twirling and walking up and down so as to get the most attention during a service. This way I'm sure they feel satisfied that their new outfit has been seen and well noticed by all.

There are the hunters. These set of people have turned the church to their forest where they search for game that can satisfy their hunger. What am I talking about? I'm referring to those who go to church looking for husbands, wives and babes that they can lay hold upon. I was shocked when I heard some boys randomly talking and I just happened to be walking past and heard them say that the best girls are usually in church these days. They even went as far as making comparison of the particular church with the finest and most appealing babes..I just shook my head! I'm not saying one cannot have a partner from the church but not going to church after church after church in search..

Another club is the social media fanatics. These ones video themselves while praying, singing, dancing or doing anything in the church. It's like they want their followers to see them do everything they did in the service and it really amazes me. After the close of church when you view their statuses or their insta posts, you'd see videos of somethings that you never even knew happened in church. This set are just simply amazing, so to speak.

There are the eye service club who want to do everything there is to be done and with utmost agility. Once could mistake this for something good but to me it's not because the motive for doing something should be checked along side what one does. People who do things of God just so men can praise them and say they are good or they are perfect are never doing the right thing because when nobody is there, you'd find that they are not willing to do the things they used to do anymore.

There are those who come to church and complain about everything done. I used to know someone who did a proper analysis of everything that was done in order to be a critic as if he was reading a book or watching a movie. I got tired of listening to him sometimes because he always made sure the parts of the service I enjoyed became thrash after his analysis.

Lest I forget, there are the sleepers. They come, dance, jump and shout and the moment it's time for the message, they begin to sleep. Really I used to wonder why people sleep in church until a day I was very tired and I figured out that it's so easy to flow into sleep in church. That very day I was sleeping without even knowing. And you know the funniest part, when an usher approaches these sleepers, they always say they are not sleeping. In my case, I was this close but I held myself and began to write anything on my note pad just to ward off sleep.

Lastly, there are the gist and gossip mongers. They talk about people's clothes, bags, combination of dresses that did not match, how the pastor's show has a bad sole and many more. I've often wondered how people observe these things cos I don't have much time to look at someone up to the sole of their shoe. If I happen to see it, it's by proxy and not intentional but for gossips they are always intentional.

This is to mention but a few...

I've often heard people say it doesn't matter what you do in church, as long as you're there one word or the other must hit you. Am I disputing this fact? No! It's possible to be hit by a word either during the message or choir ministration or any other segment of the service, but does this word spend more than 5 secs in your heart?

You often hear people shout after they've picked a word, and that's it for them. They have responded physically and nothing more.

Majority of people are christians and they go to church but it is more than that. It's easy to get distracted, yes. Even me I'm guilty of it, but I make conscious efforts to keep focused.

You know yourself, I may or may not have mentioned your category today but you know the one you fall into. If it Is good continue. If not remember that Christ rose for you so change and turn a new leaf today. Remember, it is more than just saying I will change, work it out!
