Why So Much Struggle? Good evening readers, how are you? Hope you are having a great day/weekend? Is it going as planned? Don't ask me, mine is definite not. Nothing I have done today has anything to do with what I planned to do. If I am to be honest, all have done today are things I never wanted to do, but hey, I guess you don't get to really choose, unless you are God maybe. I actually had a few things planned for today, for example 1. Do the laundry 2 . General house cleanup and maintenance 3. Put all my records in order 4. Study a little 5. Sleep like no man's business afterwards. Pretty basic and ordinary right? You would think this should be easy to get around to, after all it's the weekend; wrong. While I was still at it, I remembered i had to attend the congress meeting holding today, and boy! are they not wise, they scheduled it for 8:00am, seriously, do the guys have a life? I am the Director of Finance in my faculty's student union government and today was the de-facto audit and handing over ceremony, as it was the dissolution of the old parliamentary arm of the union and the inauguration of the new one, as well as the election of the principal officer of the new congress. So, I had to get up early and deal with the flashing notification button on read.cash, I read all the article publish as at then, I had hope to write that morning but time was not on my side. After reading and commenting, I started sorting the financial records needed for the audit and every other thing. As sleepy as I was and still am, I had to do it that morning (or na prison for end the matter😂😂). I did try my best to sort it all out in the absence of the statement of the association's account, which I tried unsuccessfully to get on Friday last week. By the time I finished preparing it, I was very late for the sitting(meeting), but still I had to try my best as I needed to be there. I got there and imagine my fury! when I realised they hadn't even started; Nigerians and Africa time ( Africa time is a concept whereby people come to an event few minutes or hours after the scheduled opening time, with the belief that they won't start before that time). Well, angry as I was, I still waited until the whole thing got underway, and it was during the meeting that this question came to me. I was just sitting there watching them go about their business; which at that point was the review of the constitution guiding the association. I was alarmed at the level of power drunkiness been perpetrated by a supposedly "educated and intelligent" set of people. I am a member of the executive, and I sat and watched as these guys basically collected almost all the powers of the executive and vested it on themselves, it was baffling. I was almost tempted to ask them why don't they just turn it into a parliamentary system where they elect ministers from within themselves to run the affairs of the body instead of stripping the executive of the little power they had before. It almost seem like they want to run the show but want a number of figureheads who will burn for it when there's power. I just started thinking, why so much struggle for power? Really, why? We see it everyday, everywhere, the length people would go to just to either obtain or retain power even in small places( like a student union body). It's worrisome to me because I don't see how someone who wants to genuinely serve or has anyone's interest in mind would be power drunk, especially as all form of power are transitionary ( or at least supposed to be). The set of people trying to chop power away from the executive today won't be part of the parliament tomorrow, how can they vouch that those after them won't abuse these powers they are concentrating in one arm? But I am sure they don't care, this is about them. The human nature of wanting to be on top is not a bad thing in itself, after all the Bible did say we are to dominate the earth and everything within it, but come on, domination what we see today is anything but that. The desire to have power, just so you can feel good about yourself and ride on people and in most cases enrich yourself illegally while impoverishing those you ought to serve is the order of the day. **Closing** thoughts Power used to be about service to those who give it to you, it was a thing that requires excruciating sacrifices, and hence those who had a passion for a cause and truly cared were the ones who stepped up to wield it, but today the reverse prevails. People now seek to wield power for their selfish and personal gain and are willing to do anything to get it. This is a disease that has infected from bottom to top, from the most irrelevant position in the most irrelevant organisation/group to the highest position in the best organisation/group, not even the church nor family setting is spared, it's just unbelievable, really it is.

Over and Beyond Note: I started writing this article earlier in the day by 5: 00AM I just looked at the time and realized that I've been up for a long time now. Not my usual routine though, considering how tired I am these days but today I have been up and I feel totally fine. Weird right? I guess everyday has their different perks. Its been a good morning on my end, woke up to the sound of my fan hovering around my head and giving out cool air making me so comfy. Seeing light is a very good way to start your morning. Considering I have had to spend most of my mornings in darkness lately and of course in heat, it feels nice to have something else for a change and I'm loving it. What would you say is your most powerful weapon? I don't mean swords, knives and guns. If we were to discuss the most powerful amongst these three then we'd be here all day because a great swordsman would say its the sword. Why? Because he has the skills needed to wield it. Another good with knives would definitely say knives are the most powerful and lastly a soldier or a thief or maybe anyone with the training of how to use a gun would say guns hold the greatest power. Well who do you agree with? My most powerful weapon will be...(wait I'm thinking)..I don't know how to use swords, I might end up cutting myself. Knives are also a no-go area for me. What about guns? I can't use one either. I guess my most powerful weapon would have to be my mind. Yes! You heard me right, I just said my mind. Since I was young, I've had an overactive imagination. I would conjure up stories and thoughts in my head and spend a lot of time dwelling on them. My mind was always busy, working up one thought or the other, making sure I'm never bored. See why its my power house? Its always there when I need it. The mind is a very powerful tool and over time research has shown that it is the power house and driving force of every human. Frankly I agree because nothing a man does ever happens without the knowledge of the mind. It has to be conceived, analysed, processed and understood up there in one's mind before any possible action can be made. Have you never wondered why the phrase "a sound mind" existed. Think about it, does it mean that the mind can be "unsound". Absolutely right! A sound mind is what we all need to achieve all we want in life. Do you need money, that new job, new house, admission and more, then you need to make sure your mind is sound. Let me tell you a story. There was a boy called Ade. He was a lover of football and he loved to play all the time. He had the skills, he was physically fit and he had good looks too. In his local community, he already had the nickname Aderonaldo. This was because he had skills Cristiano Ronaldo has and he was just a young boy. Ade was still a secondary school student but wanted to play football abroad and he always envisaged himself doing this all the time. Ade's heart, head and mind were focused on this dream of his and he wanted it so bad. He would train daily to be better. One day, news got to Ade that some football ambassadors were coming to the neighborhood to scout new talents in a week. This news was very good to Ade because he knew he had what is required to be selected but Ade made a mistake. He began to train and prepare too much without rest. When he wasn't training physically, he was training in his mind. This all became too much or Ade that his body broke down. It started out as a joke but Ade became mentally unstable and started blurting out a lot of gibberish. Although he got picked, he couldn't go and they had to pick someone who was less qualified than Ade . This story although sad happens a lot, maybe not in its entirety but in bits here and there. Despite the fact that we need to have sound minds, we should not over task our mind and force it to break down. We should know when to stop and let things be for the time being. Taking a short rest doesn't mean you don't know what's at stake, it simply means than you know its important, that's why you're resting to enable you push better. The mind although has no mouth of its own should be guarded like a treasure chest because once it is lost, it cannot be recovered easily. Here are a few tips that help ** take a lot of rest and sleep for reasonable hours daily. ** Think positive and happy thoughts often. I know there will always be problems but don't dwell on them all the time ** have time for your mind to wander off on its own without restricting it. This helps to keep it from being logged with thoughts after thoughts after thoughts ** generally, be happy!! **Closing thoughts** My mind for me is my wonder worker. I engage it a lot and I let it rest a lot. Plus there are times I go a day without engaging it at all. You can do lots more if you have a healthy relationship between you and your mind. Its special so treat it as such!

A Near Death Experience okay, visualise this. It's a very cool morning, you wake up just like every other day (except earlier), it's a public holiday, so you get one day off from the stress of the Nigeria tetiary education system. You realise that it's an opportunity to make some money, so you set out to work for the day. Being a fisheries undergraduate, you get a fish farm to hire your services for the day to help them sort fishes and you have the luxury of doing it with your friends. That's kind of a dream day, right? So, you set out with your friends to do the job. It wasn't long, you were completely engrossed in your job, doing it so effortlessly, even though it was a lot of work. It was taking longer than you expect and you were beginning to feel you are being underpaid, but all in all, it still seem like a good day, yeah?. Well, you have been at it for hours, and yeah soon you were done. You thought in your wisdom or foolishness( or maybe one of your friends did), hey! There's an empty pond with a lot of clean water;sound like a pool, we could have some fun. Not having tried out swimming before, you thought there's no harm in learning how to swim (a fisheries expert who can't swim is an abberation, right?). So, why the friend jumps into the water, you jump along( and almost died alone, no rush yet), into the water, while your friend is gliding and floating, you found yourself in the mid-water column, and in place of gliding and floating, you are drinking and breathing water. ( As the strong man wey you be) You quickly tried to get out of the water, still not feeling the urgency of the situation, but between standing up from the water and catching some air, you couldn't win both battles, and in a matter of a few split seconds, you were back down in the water column, until your very "stupid" friend had the awareness to pull you out of the water. Are you still having a great day? I imagine not. Beautiful fictional story,eh? Wrong; beautiful, yes; fictional, no. That right there was how my day two days ago. What started as a really good day to earn some extra cash and have fun with my friends @Kushyzee and Gaiom took a spin and was suddenly a nightmare. I planned to do a lot of things yesterday, drowning wasn't one of them, never was, never will be. Right there, we laughed about it, and even after we got home, we kept joking and laughing about it. My roommate was even asking me what I saw when I was close to "kicking the bucket"😂😂(not that I got close to that point) But I couldn't help but think in that moment, how fleeting life is. It's fleeting nature was made clear to me in the aftermath of that event. If life is so fleeting, it raises questions about how we live the lives given to us by God ( be guided @Kushyzee, I didn't become religious overnight because of the incident😂😂). All the little squabbles I have had of recent all of a sudden lost significance, the worries about tomorrow and the likes. The human desire for wealth and all the best of things of life has always made sense to me, but in that moment, the human desire to gain these things at the expense of others, notwithstanding the harm caused to these people made no sense to me, as we never know when we will leave this world. A lot of people feel if they have all the things they desire, they can control everything around them, hence they get to decide whaf happens to them, but i leayrnt that day, that no matter whom you are and what you have, there are lot of things that will always be out of your control or decision, like when you join your ancestors. Closing **thoughts** This incident has forced me to reflect on my life and see all the parts of it where I am failing and making excuses for myself. It helped me re-priotise the things in my life and interestingly, a lot of things that used to mean nothing have true meaning now, and some of the things that I used to hold dear now seem so trivial. The bottom line is that as we drive to achieve our dreams and goals,we should try to live right for the things that truly matters, and everyday when you wake up, thank God for a new day, and think about the kind of legacy you want to leave behind when you finally kick that bucket.

Third Time Is A Charm Hey fellow readers. Good morning from Edo state, Nigeria. Ok, now the introduction. This might be my first post here, but it is certainly not my first post on read.cash. That makes no sense? I know, but I would rather not delve into the specifics, but I am sure you can make a very good guess; yea, that's exactly what happened, whatever you are thinking(as long as I am not at fault in the scenario playing in your end). I am a student of the university of Benin, Nigeria, studying Fisheries and Aquaculture management, currently in 400l (it's a 5year programme). I am also a crypto enthusiast and newcomer ( hoping to get a big break from crypto😂😂). I love football, music, writing( and of course, being rewarded for it, hopefully😂😂 ). I wrote under a different username until my account was spammed. It has happened twice, and it hurts like hell, but third time is a charm, so they say right?. I have taken a break to really reflect on the events that might have led to both incidence, but I don't quite see what I did wrong, although on the second one, I did see how the misunderstanding might have come about. I wrote an article and the title must have been misleading(how I wish I had titled it something else). Starting from bottom all over again is never a pleasant experience, it is certainly not something you want to experience once, not to mention twice. Does it hurt, it does, does it stop, depends on a lot of things, but it has tested my resolve to push on in the midst of these "trials". On a normal day, I am the kind of person who is very good at starting but terrible at diligence and perseverance, hence terrible at finishing. Like I always say, this is the key hindrance to my developing my writing. But since I first joined read.cash, I have made so much improvement in my writing and it's even having effect on other aspect of my life. It has helped me sharpen my writing skills, improved my ease of writing and greatly increased my enjoyment of it. This is why even after those two unfortunate incident, I refuse to give up. I have made the effort to literally memorise the rules, so I don't break it intentionally or accidentally. You might ask, how do I intend to recover the lost ground? Will I ever recover the lost ground? Well, there are definitely no guarantee, but one can hope for the best and if it so happen that I never recover, I will just have to enjoy my writing. **Closing** thoughts I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have supported me on this platform. They have made it worthwhile and easy to adapt and become a member of this community. Without their support, I probably won't be here today. Special thanks to @Kushyzee for introducing me to the platform and constantly guiding me along the way. Same goes for @HappyBoy , my coach from afar, sorry to disappoint with my last account, will do better this time. Special thanks to all the big names ( that I can not mention for reasons we all know; twice beaten, a thousand times shy) for always reading my articles. Finally, special thanks and recognition @FarmGirl for all her support and sponsorship on my last account, I appreciate it all. These people and so many others are the reason I can never give up on writing here, no matter what. I have got a good feeling about this. I know it's going to go well for me this time around. Have a good day people.
