Trust His Heart Wednesday evening, my mother complained about the discomforts she felt on her body. There was numbness on her feet up to her knees, and headaches as well. At first, we suspected it was her uric acid spiking since I too have gouty arthritis. Since we are eating almost the same food at home, might as well, we have the same issue. But to be sure as soon as the morning came, we sent her to be checked up. We found out that her discomforts were due to her high blood sugar. She was given a prescription and is now under observation. As of writing, it is the third day since her last check-up and thankfully, her condition's better than before. But I was worried one night when she complained that she can't sleep. Her headache was driving her crazy. Numerous times she asked me to lay my hands and pray for her, which I did. I even asked for prayers from my friends on behalf of my mother. I realized from that incident that no matter how strong we think we are when it comes to our parents, we get brittle and worried. Not just with our parents, the same goes with anyone whom you hold close to your heart. If there's a way I could switch places with her so I can take away her pain, I'd do so. But there's nothing I can do but to pray for her and keep her in check, serving her while she takes her much-deserved rest.

Well, I always say that more than material blessings, health is something to treasure and take care of. As the saying goes, health is wealth. It may sound cliche but nothing is more true! We cannot quantify our health and wellness but when we get sick, it costs us more than money - our peace and our time are also on the line. Every year, it has been a part of our family prayer that the Lord keeps us from serious sickness, and I'm glad the Lord is too gracious we don't get sick more than cough and colds. The last time I got seriously sick was during my childhood years when I had asthma. Fortunately, it was just a thing in the past. And even today, I can thankfully say that the Lord is faithful and true to His promises of keeping us safe from serious sickness. He must have known we are not fond of hospitals! This family scenario we are in teaches us a lesson or two: that though we can still pray for covering from serious sicknesses, it is our duty to take care of ourselves. We need to watch our diets. We need to make sure we cooperate with Him in making sure we're healthy and productive, able to fulfill our purpose. Another thing is God is still sovereign. Sometimes, He allows things to happen for His greater purpose. With what's happening in our family, I think one is to drive us to a pause and get our attention. It is another opportunity for Him to show us how He heals, how He provides, and how He comforts. It is often in our downtimes when we get down to our knees and pray, and get closer to God's presence. For the past few days, even before my mother got sick, I've been contemplating the challenges He gives to His people. At times hope seems dull and help seems far off. In my quiet moments, I felt relieved - "just trust the process." Growth doesn't happen in bliss and celebrations, it happens when there are struggles. But when the process seems too ridiculous to put your trust into, "truth the Person behind the process." He knows what He's doing. As the song goes, "if you can't see His hands, trust His heart."
