𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩'𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙖 𝙣𝙖𝙢𝙚? Last night, in one of the GCs I'm in, we were discussing the stories behind our names. I'd like to share mine: My name is Martin because of a very grand, wonderful, awesome, life-altering reason: because I was born on a TUESDAY (MARTES in Filipino). The culprit - my grandma. Hahaha! My mother told me that I would have been named Ezekiel if my grandma did not meddle with my name. Being an obedient daughter she is, she obliged lol. Toxic Filipino mentality, I know. When I was a child, I wanted to change my name. It sounds too uncommon. I wanted to be called like my classmates then: Mark, John, James --- or maybe John Lloyd or Alden, I wouldn't mind lol. Martin sounds, hmm skinny? In fact, I was teased "Martin - tingting" (broomsticks; also "thin") But now, I realized that it's not about our names. It's about the personality we give our names. Who is the "person" wearing that name? What do people see behind our nametags, IDs, or nameplates? Ready, sing: "Who is that boy I see, staring straight, back at me?" hahaha. As I mature, I have learned to love my name. Because I learned that there's more to my name. I am the sum of all the lessons and realizations I learned growing up. I am Martin - fearfully and wonderfully made, ready to conquer the world lol. And that's the story of my name. How about you? What's the story behind your name?
