What does the lion look like in the wild? The lion is noticeably different from most other felines in that it has a muscular and prominent chest with a short but rounded head. The neck is short and they have rounded ears plus a tuft of hair at the end of the tail. The male is easily distinguishable from the female as it has a prominent mane. African lions can grow up to 3 meters from head to tail, with the tail being about 60 to 91 centimeters. Lions typically weigh between 150 and 250 kilograms, with males reaching the upper end of this range. Asiatic (also called Indian) lions are slightly smaller than African lions. They are 2 to 2.8 m long from head to tail and weigh between 110 and 190 kg.
