Daffodils are said to have appeared on the death of Narcissus, a very handsome young man who, because he was indifferent to the love the nymphs showed him, was punished to fall in love with himself. One day, when he was passing by a lake, he saw his beautiful face in the mirror of the water, and wanting to embrace the face in the water, Narcissus fell into the depths and drowned. The nymphs came to mourn him and turned him into a flower that is always upside down to always remind them of their lover admiring himself in the water mirror.
