Lions tend to have their skin hanging over the midsection of their bodies, possibly to protect them from the piercing hooves of their prey. Asiatic lions also have a fold of skin that runs along their bellies, a feature rarely found in African lions. Compared to African lions, Asiatic lions tend to have less showy fur, longer tufts of hair on elbows and a longer tassel at the end of the tail.
