The heaviest bird in the world: the Dalmatian pelican. The Dalmatian pelican (Pelecanus crispus) is a member of the pelican family. It is distributed from southeastern Europe to India and China in swamps and small lakes. This is the largest of the pelicans, averaging about 160-180 cm in length, 11-15 kilograms in weight, and a little more than 3 m in wingspan. Dalmatian pelicans are the heaviest flying birds in the world, on average, although great bustards and great swans can exceed the pelican at maximum weight.
