2. Rasnov Fortress. A large mountain fort built to protect the outer borders, Rasnov Fortress has a long and intriguing history that just begs to be explored. The location was chosen because the invading armies had to pass through Rasnov before heading west - and over the years, it was besieged by Tatars, Ottomans, Hungarians, etc. As a result, it is probably not a surprise that the inhabitants of Rasnov and the nearby villages got tired of continuously leaving their houses to be robbed and thus turned the Rasnov Citadel into their long-term residence for decades - which which means that now there is an entire village of the fortification left to explore. There is also a museum worth visiting with exhibits, including weapons and period objects.
