The Sound of Unseen Footsteps The Sound of Unseen Footsteps At the far end of the village, under an old banyan tree, stood a broken, abandoned house. Everyone called it The Weeping House—because every evening, a strange crying sound echoed from inside. But whenever anyone approached, the sound would vanish. One day, five adventurous friends decided they would spend a night in that house. The entire village warned them, but they didn’t listen. Inside, the house was filled with dust, cobwebs, broken windows, and a suffocating smell. In the middle stood a cracked chair, and in one corner lay some old children’s toys—swaying slightly as if someone had just touched them. At midnight, the first sound came— Tok… tok… tok… It felt like someone was slowly coming down the stairs. They thought maybe it was just the wind shaking the doors. But the sound stopped and then returned—closer this time. Tok… tok… tok… Now it was clear—footsteps, but not human… like a wooden doll walking. Suddenly, the room grew cold. One friend said, “Did you see that? Something moved over there.” As the others turned, they saw a little girl standing beside the wall. A white nightdress. A face with no eyes or mouth—just empty black holes. And in her hand was the same toy they had seen when they first entered. The girl slowly placed the toy on the floor, then turned her hollow face toward them. In the next moment, the whole room filled with— Laughter and crying… happening at the same time. The door slammed shut. The windows locked. The lights went out. The villagers later said they had seen five pairs of hands reaching desperately out of the broken window… But none of them ever came out. Since that night, the number of toys in the house keeps increasing every year.
