"Not a Ghost, Not a Dream—It Was Real" I’m just a regular guy, like any other 8-to-10-grade student, from a middle-class family. Anyway, let’s get straight to the story. At the time, I was in 12th grade and had my college entrance exams coming up. Naturally, I was doing my best to study hard and get good marks. We lived in a house where my uncle’s family also stayed, but in a separate section. The kitchen was right near my room, so during the hot summer days, it was tough for me to concentrate while my aunt cooked. So I decided to study at night instead. Since I didn’t need to attend college regularly in Class 12, that worked for me. Every night I would study, and whenever I felt tired, I’d drink some water and continue. One night, while getting water, I heard a strange noise. I thought maybe it was a fox or a stray animal. Then I heard an anklet-like sound—*jhon jhon*—which made me feel like I was hallucinating. That night, I didn’t pray Tahajjud either, and I felt weird. The next few nights, I tried again. Same thing—nothing happened at first, but one night, when I went to make wudu (ablution), I suddenly caught a cold, even though the weather on my phone said it was hot. While praying, I felt like there was a breeze behind me, or like someone was there. After prayer, I recited*Ayatul Kursi*and blew on myself before sleeping. That night, I didn’t go to the bathroom. Days passed, and things were kind of normal again. I told a friend about it, and he told me to check on YouTube—maybe I was experiencing something supernatural. That’s when I realized it could be a*jinn*, not a ghost like in Bollywood movies. After that, weird things happened while I prayed. I’d get confused if I was even praying correctly. My thoughts would get messed up. Once, after studying at night, I lay down to rest. Even though there were people in the house, I felt alone. I tried to speak, but no sound came out. That’s when I realized—I was paralyzed. The next day, I told my friend, and he said, “Bro, sounds like a*boba jinn*(sleep paralysis jinn) attacked you.” He also said they can attack easily, especially if you’re not in a state of purity before sleep. I remembered—I hadn’t done wudu that night. Later, when my exams were over, I went to my grandfather’s house. It’s a nice duplex with a staircase and a modern room with AC and a smart TV. One night, it was raining and a bit chilly, but my room felt hot. I opened the window for some air, but things got eerily quiet. As I lay there, I felt a strong breeze blow the window wide open. I fixed it and tried to sleep. Around 2:49 a.m., I experienced sleep paralysis again. I tried to run but couldn’t. I prayed silently and finally fell back asleep. Later, I woke up and went to the bathroom, and on the way back, I heard a buzzing sound from upstairs. I got scared and hid inside the mosquito net. At 3:30 a.m., I felt that weird heat again—just like before. I knew now for sure—it was a jinn. I couldn’t speak. The TV turned on by itself. I prayed silently, and it felt like something tried to drag my words out of me. I thought maybe I had made myself impure and needed to clean up, so I did, prayed again, and fell asleep. Next day, I talked to a religious teacher. He told me, “Jinns exist and can cause harm. You have to be cautious. This is like a test from Allah. Stay strong, be patient, and keep praying. Especially Tahajjud.” His words made me feel better. I stayed alert and careful for a few days. Nothing weird happened again until I came back home. About a week later, I was studying late again. My window wasn’t closing properly, so I opened it a bit to adjust it. Suddenly, something passed by so quickly, and a strong wind hit me. I screamed out of fear. The next day, I got a fever and fell sick. I even missed an exam because of it. You see, there are many things in this world we can’t see, but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist. The Quran and Hadith mention jinn. They’ve been around longer than humans. We have to be careful and always put our trust in Allah. This was a mix of three real incidents from my life.
