Autocracy vs Democracy;can there be a meeting point?

In the world today, there are two dominant systems of governance, autocracy and democracy. These two systems appear to be polar opposites and are constantly locking horns in a battle for supremacy across the globe.

While autocracy virtually leaves all the decision making powers at the hands of a single individual or select individual, democracy prides itself in being the system that gives power to the people. As it is popularly defined as government of the people, by the people and for the people. However in reality, this is not always the case as in some places where democracy is practised, the people virtually have no say in the affairs of the country except when it is time for elections when the self acclaimed champions of democracy hound them to woo for their votes.

The democratic system like any other system has a flaw, the majority always wins. While this may not appear to be a challenge on the surface level , it could be terrible for whole populaces, if for some reason the majority is beguiled or deceived into backing a decision or going in a direction that only benefits a select few while that same majority and the rest of the population bear the consequences of such wrong decision. The majority sometimes can indeed be painfully wrong.

We have seen apparent cases of success of both systems in some countries across the globe implying that both systems if managed properly with the welfare of the people at the core could yield positive results even if not at the level of a hundred percent.

The question is this, must these two systems be mutually exclusive or is there a middle ground that can be treaded between both systems. You are welcome to share your thoughts in the comments section.
