Superstitions in the English language are beliefs of adults that are often unfounded and cannot explain why they need to be followed. Superstitions have a profound effect on our culture. It affects our happiness, sadness, failure, and success in life.

  • Let us always remember that human life does not depend on any superstition. Let us come to God who knows the future and it is certain that in every consultation with Him there is a concrete and clear future we can walk with His help.

Here are the different superstitions of our elders in filipino beliefs

The following are examples of superstition over the dead, pregnancy, and marriage.

Superstitions of the Dead and Burial

1.Whoever steals a donation or anything for the dead will be a thief for life.


2.It is forbidden to take only three pictures because one will die.


3.It is forbidden to kill a chicken if it has not already reduced the pain.


4.The deceased visits when a chocolate -colored butterfly does not want to leave.


4.Should not sweep when there is a dead body in the house.


5.Do not sing while in front of the stove because the bride will die early.


6.Do not approach the dead when there is a wound because it will not heal.


7.Don't sleep in front of the door because death will pull you in.


8.Avoid bumping the coffin when taken out of the house so as not to upset the soul of the deceased.


9.It is necessary to wake up when a hearse passes by because the deceased may be included.


10.When a bat enters your home, it means someone will die.


11.When there is a white butterfly in your home while someone is buried, it means that the soul of the person who died is clean.


12.When you hear an owl chirping near your place at midnight, it means someone is going to die.


13.when dreaming that a tooth falls out a relative will die.


14.Change clothes immediately after returning from a funeral or funeral.

Superstitions in Pregnancy and Childbirth

-this is what i afraid before when im single hahahha even when i already have a partner when i see that a banana has a twin, i will not ate it, lol because of this belief it makes me insane hahahaha

2.A baby's skin is a sign that his mother has something he did not eat. A pregnant woman has to touch her buttocks so that the baby's buttocks also land on the skin.

-this one i dont really thinks its true because i also wondered with this. My daughter has a big mole on her back but they said did i eat something dark when im pregnant? Will i didnt know what i ate dark because when im pregnant before i ate everything as long as it is not so salty and so sweet

3.A tree with many fruits will wither and stop bearing fruit when its fruit is conceived by a pregnant woman.

4.Her husband had to urinate on the tree to get it back to its former vigor.

5.Any man will conceive when his pregnant wife steps in.
-this,i will laugh about this, before when i got pregnant on my 1st baby, i didnt let my partner steps in my belly hahahaha

6.Do not hang the pregnant guest at the door. Instead, the visitor immediately entered the house so that it would not be difficult for the pregnant woman to give birth.
-actually i tried this but i guess its right or maybe not when i got labored on my 1st baby i didnt labored so hard rather my baby is out so fast than my 2nd baby it making me crazy to pull her out, thats the time i told to myself that i will not going to be preggy again hahahha.

7.A man who is having difficulty giving birth to his wife has to crawl down the stairs to facilitate the birth.

8.When a woman is pregnant especially and lives in remote villages the detective has to be careful.

9.When a pregnant woman's left abdomen throbs frequently, she will give birth to a baby girl. The opposite is true when on the right.

10.When an eclipse occurs, pregnant women have to leave the house so that their future child will not be abnormal.
-so far it is not true, how many times eclipse have done in our planet but even once no one has bad happen to my baby when im preggy before

11.When a cat barks in front of a house, there is a pregnant woman in that house.

12.When a pregnant woman laughs at a person with a disability, her future child will also have the same disability.

13.When a pregnant woman beats an animal, so will the face of the baby she is carrying.

14.If you have a housemate who is pregnant, it is bad to kill a lizard because the baby in her womb is also likely to die.

15.It is bad to repair the house when a housewife is pregnant because it will certainly be difficult for her to give birth.

16.It is bad for a pregnant woman to sit on the stairs of the house.

17.Conceive beautiful and handsome people so that the unborn child will be beautiful and handsome as well.

Superstition at home

1.It is unlucky for the house that the front door does not face the street.
-It's not true even if it's still behind, if your family is lucky, it doesn't depend on that

2. When the stairs of the house have thirteen steps, the owner of the house will die early or will suffer.
-our stairs has a few steps but we're still difficult

3. When building a house, place the door on the east side so that the sun can shine, so that it will bring good luck to those who live there.
-It's not true, maybe the correct with that is when, the sun light can light up your living room but it doesnt make a luck it still depend on the owner or the person.

4.Unfortunately any house made on the 13th of any month.
-It also depends on the person, even if it's not 13, still there is bad luck

Marriage Superstitions

1. The newlywed wife will sew/stick a swan’s feather on Mister’s pillow so that he will always be faithful.
-even if you do that if he's a traitor, he's really a traitor no matter what

2. The one who catches the flower thrown by the bride will get married next.
-Mostly this is true, not all but almost

3. Giving arenola is good for the newlyweds.
-hahahaha it's not true

4. The man should lead the woman out of the church so that she does not become ander de saya.
-hahahahha it depends, even if the man is ahead, if he's going to make another walley padin

5. The band has to bring the newlyweds to drive away the bad vision in their marriage.


6.The bride and groom should avoid traveling far because they are close to disaster.
