Laziness is Bondage

Laziness, I have mentioned a bit of this topic in my article about The Awesomeness of Freedom. I have to quote back here what I have written about laziness and poverty, because both words are significantly congruent with each other.

"Being poor is not a bondage, but laziness is."

A lot of us aren't born rich, we are all in this platform to make both ends meet. Thus, we're not lazy. Great job to all of us! You're free from the bondage of laziness.

However, how about those unfortunate people who seem to have no initiative on how to make a living, or lack the guts and the confidence to divert their energy into something more productive, or lazy to learn new things and lacks enthusiasm to venture profitable pursuits in life?

Every time I commute going to work, there are Badjao people waiting at every stop of the jeepney or the bus in the city streets to beg for money. The Badjao is an ethnic group often tagged as "sea gypsies" in the southern part of Mindanao, while they're known to live in an impoverished way of life, I believe not all stagnate, some had lived making a difference like the Badjao Girl, and also this Badjao community in Cebu City that has been thriving positively and proactively for the development of their tribe.

But, for some in this group, opted the easy way of making a living like begging in the streets. I have some friends from public/ government agencies that had worked together to address the problem of this group in our city. They have provided livelihood projects, and some teacher volunteers help to educate them for self development and to new things that could be great opportunities for these people to grow and improve their means of living.

How come we still see them in the streets? Unfortunately, because some are just lazy to learn new things. A volunteer friend of mine would tell me that, whenever they have a livelihood training with the Badjao community only 1 or 2 were present, while some would sell the raw materials for the project and ended up with nothing to use in the next session. Most of them are just relentless for a better change, perhaps they're only wanting easy money.

“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime” - Lao Tzu

This is the premise, why we need to teach some people to explore something new for better opportunities, for them to settle up and carry on living by the sweat of their brows not relying on anyone to feed him or her. Some despise work and thought that it's easier to rely on someone else. It's a shame that even people in their productive years- mentally and physically normal individuals, still rely on their parents, or worst to their grandparents.

Nowadays, there are lots of things that we can do to earn and make a living, if we're not lazy to learn these new things then we can change the direction of our lives. We only need to keep our mind open, and keep on learning.

"A lazy person has trouble all through life; the path of the upright is easy." - Proverbs 15:19

Laziness is a bondage, and one should realize that he/ she needs help to be set free.

In many places we find people who find it easier to ask than to do; we experience this every day in public transportation.

Kaya yung isang friend ko, pag may nakikita na ganyan sa daan tas parang malakas pa naman at kayang magtrabaho e di niya talaga binibigyan, kasi nga may kakayahan naman to work talaga e. May mga pilay at walang kamay nga na may work kasi masipag at pangarap, yung kumpleto pa kaya. Truly, some really just want easy money.

After a few wks lagi ng absent. Mas gusto humilata lang sa haws. Yun kasi nakasanayan nila. Aasa nalang sa hingi

It's unfortunate to learn how they settle on that mindset. After all, the decision is still theirs.

I believe that laziness and poverty are a state of mind. If there is willingness and you are healthy, you can always work and get ahead.

I agree. Forgive me but tere are just some Badjo people that makes me angry at some point. Just recently, a mom let her child hand us passengers some envelopes for which we can put money inside, while the streetlight said stop. When the jeepney started moving, that is when we saw her mother running after the jeepney, and she has a baby held in her arms. Poor children. That baby will.soon be part of the beggars too. Why do they make children to just suffer with their lives? 😔

Laziness is a sin from which I do not suffer. I like to make an effort in what I undertake and even at my age I do not get used to not working.

This tribe remind me of the Almanjaris here in my country, they are from a neighboring country and they have dedicated their life to begging to survive.

The government has planned several ways to liberate them but it doesn't work out. I think they are stuck with their ancient mentality. I feel sorry for the youth among them that has embraced this same lifestyle.

Unfortunately today there are a lot of young people who do not have enough enthusiasm to work and earn money for themselves and rely on their parents. I am in dilemma whether people are born lazy or do they become lazy through life? I think it's all matter of upbringing.

I think upbringing is a factor too, but at least we should learn as we mature. We can't blame anyone for being lazy.
