Accent -"a distinctive way of pronouncing a language, especially one associated with a particular country, area, or social class." Registers -refers to a particular ways of using language, whether formal or informal in particular contexts and in social situations. Types of Registers Frozen- These are specific written or oral acts that never change. Example: National Anthem Formal- Used when communication is expected to be respectful. Example: Academic paper Consultative- used when speaking with someone who has specialized knowledge or who is offering advice. Example: talking to a teacher Casual- used when with friends, and family. Example: a birthday party Intimate- this communication is private.
