On July 20, 1944, Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg made his courageous, though unsuccessful, attempt to assassinate Hitler at the Wolf's Lair, near Ketrzyn, in northeastern Poland. The Wolf's Lair was Hitler's main headquarters along the German Eastern Front.
