Chapter 2 — The Notebook on the Windowsill Chapitre 2 — Le carnet de la fenêtre
I don’t know what day it is. The calendar has been stuck on a random date, and I no longer have the energy to correct it. Yet tonight, something was different. He sang, like he always does. But this time, at the end of his song, I heard something else. A rustle. Then a faint thud, like an object being gently set down. I hesitated to believe it was real — maybe just a sound from the building. But my instinct — that thing I’ve stopped listening to — whispered for me to get up. I walked over to the window. It’s always a ritual. I never open the curtains during the day. But at night… at night, I allow myself to peek outside, as if darkness could shield my fears. And there, on the edge of my windowsill, was a notebook. A small black notebook, placed neatly. Too perfect to have come from nowhere. I hesitated. For a long time. I looked at it like it might explode. Then, holding my breath, I cracked the window open. A warm breeze brushed my skin. It smelled of dust and spring. The notebook was real. I grabbed it, like someone catching a secret. On the first page, a sentence. Handwritten, slightly slanted to the right, a bit shaky. > “You’re listening to me, aren’t you?” I think my heart forgot how to beat normally. I just stood there, frozen, reading those words. Again. And again. I don’t know how he knows. I don’t even know if he’s writing to me. But in that exact moment, for the first time in 621 days, I felt something other than fear. I felt… anticipation. "Newt chapter tomorrow" Like ?
