The silence was as thick as the lens in front of his eyes, if not thicker he could almost touch it. Mrs Jones sat behind the counter at the far end of the large library, her bulgy eyes constantly judging his invisible thoughts. Not even a sigh could escape her ears in this dead silence, but at least his thoughts couldn't be heard so he went there, repeating what he had learnt yesterday. They weren't just words, they had life in them - some sort of energy.
Magic - that forbidden practice had come to him yesterday. He loved it, but couldn't live it because expressing such would warrant the death penalty so instead he decided to breathe it. He shut his eyes, hummed a tune, allowed it surge in him, felt it wrap his entity in it's soothing embrace, it tingled his body. He watched it dance as it began to take form. Heard a whisper. Blue steaks of light sipped out of him to blend with the form which kept dancing and humming till it's voice matched his. It was a girl, but not just any girl, one that he had never before seen. She enticed him with a whisper, it was a name of some sort but he cared less about the name, he wanted to touch her, to feel her, so he reached out and touched her cloth with the tip of his fingers, a vision flashed before him and he retreated. She whispered a name again, this time more audible, then quicker than she came, she left him and was gone.
He opened his eyes to see Mrs Jones still behind the counter. He never left the library. He packed the books to return them. Walking towards Mrs Jones, he noticed a shadow following closely behind then he heard a name drop, a whisper. He turned sharply. Saw no one.
"Are you done?" Mrs Jones eyed him from the top of her glasses which texted comfortably on the bridge of her rather skinny nose. She never really liked the boy and he knew. Didn't care.
Ignoring the question, he dropped the books and walked out of the library. The shadow with him.
