What's going on in Nigeria right now is the fight to #EndSARS.
What is SARS?
The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) is a branch of the Nigeria Police Force under the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCIID).
Anything that becomes a culture is the hardest to tackle and sadly our police have adopted this culture, killing and brutalizing innocent citizens all in the name of #SARS.
Some of these young men are honest working men, looking good and living comfortably. Just because you have an iPhone, ride in a Mercedes Benz and have bling on you automatically puts you under the radar of the police and they label you a "Yahoo boy", a con artist, a dishonest person.
Do they carry out proper investigation? No
Follow the law? No
Take bribe? Ohhh yes
And if you refuse to pay the bribe, you get detained or shot on the spot. There is a story of a young man who was gunned down by these police men who abandoned him on the road side and made away with his Lexus jeep.
This is more than just Nigeria now, this is the world. This is too much. This is bad.
Right now, nobody in Nigeria is smiling. We are calling out to the president to #EndSARS but then this man is all talk and no action.
People are dying!
I refuse to allow my cousin return back to the country because I'm afraid.
Dear Apple, Nigerians are being killed for using an iPhone.
Dear Mercedes, Nigerians are being killed for riding a Benz.
Dear Nike, Nigerians are being killed for wearing your brand and looking good.
*The entire police need reform but for SARS, that is just a criminal unit. They should be disbanded.
