On my past articles, I shared a picture of our Bonsai tree but I did not write anything about it. So for todays article I would like to share with you a knowledge about Bonsai. I know other might know this already but for those who don't, this article is for you guys and I hope after you read this you will be amazed and love Bonsai plants/ trees.

A short History of Bonsai
- Although a word Bonsai is Japanese , Bonsai's was actually originated in China and then spread on the country like Japan
- It is said that it was a chinese monk carrying around trees in container to bring the outdoor nature inside their temple. It was then spread by the Buddhist monk.
- And since Japan that time was very interested with the Chinese culture, they traveled and taking back home with the Penjing ( in China ) as a Bonsai.
- Then later, people of Japan talk about Bonsai and that Bonsai word spreads to the other society.
- In 1940, Bonsai tress are appearing everywhere. And have become more popular up until now.
What is Bonsai ?
- The word Bonsai is Japanese and consists of two characters; literally means "planted, in a shallow container".
- It a an art of a growing such a plant
- Bonsai is actually a kind of techniques in order to grow and style a tree, and to miniaturize it.
2 Misunderstandings about Bonsai
1. Bonsai is not genetically dwarfed plant
- Bonsai is not actually a genetically dwarfed plant. It becomes dwarf because the person who have it make the plant grows in a pot which prevented it in reaching it's normal size.
2. Bonsai is not a tree species
-Honestly, I had always thought Bonsai was the actual name of a certain small type of tree. I just learned I was wrong when my kuya make one Bonsai from a coconut tree. It IS NOT A TREE SPECIES instead l, any of tree species can be used to grow one bonsai.
What are the benefits on growing Bonsai plant in your house?
Bonsai becomes very popular over the year in different places. Some people consider growing Bonsai plant as their hobby and some people make it, as it gives an aesthetic appeal inside their house without damaging the environment around you.
It is very easy to take care a bonsai plants and you can put it any where you want inside your house because of its size. It may helps you re-energize your house, your school, your office or anywhere you want. It can also helps in psychological an health aspects...
Bonsai is also I good stress reliever . Seeing your growing bonsai will make you feel relax. Some people says that i can cure your fatigue and tiredness.

How to make a Bonsai
1.Choose be best Bonsai tree
- In growing Bonsai, the very first thing you must think is what will be the the best tree for bonsai? ( For you). There are a lot of tree species you can make use of making bonsai but choose what you want. You may choose to grow a Coconut bonsai, Ficus retusa, Chinese elm, Japanese maple, Jade plant, Snow rose and many others. Flowering and fruit tress are also particularly popular.
Where do you plan to place it?
It is really important to know where do you plan to place it. Is it indoor or outdoor?
Actually, in placing your Bonsai, you must also consider the kinds of bonsai tree you have. If it needs sunlights or warmer place . You can place it outdoor or you may place it also inside your house but make sure you place it where there is a sunlight. Or you can also choose to place it free from drafts
What we have here is a Coconut bonsai, which is easy to find but satisfying bonsai also. And we place it in our terrace.
2. Pick your ideal pot for Bonsai tree
- If you grow your own bonsai, you have to buy a container or a pot for your bonsai.
As what I have know, Ideally, it must be shallow and small. This will prevent the spreading of the root of your bonsai and not get too big.
3. Design or trim you Bonsai tree
- Decide your preferred Bonsai tree design or style. After deciding, you may start pruning and shaping of your bonsai.
But if you have difficulties in deciding the style or the design of your Bonsai tree or you have no idea .You can make use of the internet and choose the style you want.
At first, It may look far from your bonsai tree reference, Just be patient. Patience is very important and the key to achieve you Bonsai tree goal.
4. Use Tie Wire to arrange/ shape the branches of your Bonsai tree
- This is one of the common techniques in shaping the branch of the bonsai tree. In choosing your preferred tree species you might pick a tree which will not make you happy because of the shape of the growing branch. So you can make use of tie wire to achieved your desired shape. Just wrap the branches tightly in order to force the branch move on where you wanted it to move.
5. Take good care of your Bonsai
- When you are done making your bonsai tree. Your final task is to take good care of your Bonsai.
✓You must check and water your bonsai tree everyday.
✓ Trim if it is needed by your bonsai plants. Water it ever
✓ Check the temperature. Be sure to keep your bonsai out of direct sunlight.
✓ Change the pot if the root is getting bigger.
✓ If ever you achieved already your desired shape of your bonsai tree, you must maintain its shape.
CLOSING THOUGHTS
Actually, growing Bonsai tree is just like caring a good relationship with your love ones. It needs pruning and shaping like bonsai. You must trim and remove all the unnecessary branches or the bad things, all misunderstandings, arguments and maintain the good things, the good shape, improve and take good care of it until the end.
