Pros and Cons of living in a remote area

It's been a day when we published the pros and cons of having many platform and hopefully some of you learned about it. It seems that our blogs are more on pros and cons...they said that everything has advantage and disadvantage, then how about in our lifestyle? In our living place?

There’s always a sudden change of weather in our area and most of it is a massive rain caused by the typhoon. The clothes are still not dried for how many days because the Sun is not showing, it is hard.

We can compare our place in an island, well, it is an island...a remote place. Thus, we are obviously surrounded by a lake. There's a lot of barangay/town/village in this island, and our barangay is considered as one of the smallest and let's say “late blooming” barangay.

I don't know if the barangay official in our place will read this, but they don't have any projects, I guess? I think that's the reason why we are always late in everything. I hate politics.

Going back, there’s a lot of advantage and disadvantage in living in a remote area but we will include the things that I remember and experience.

What are the advantages?

When we heard “remote area,” we usually think an uncivilized place where there is no electricity and et cetera but this place is actually rich in resources that most of the city has no access like:

  • Fishes. Since we are surrounded by the water, this place is rich in fishes. In fact, this is one of the most common job in this area—fishing. Putting a net in the lake overnight then go back in the morning, if you are lucky you will catch more fish and sell it to the city. When you will sell it in the city, it is a bit expensive that is why most of the fishermen sell it there because the demand of fishes in the city is higher, the price also increases and it means more income. The exciting part is, when there typhoon ends, expect the tons of milkfish. You will eat it for more than a week because of the massive increase of supply! Sometimes they are given by your neighbors free.

  • Woods and Bamboos. We rarely see woods and bamboos in the city, most of the things that we will see are vehicles. In our place, this is the second source of income. The people will work to build a “sala set” or also known as “bamboo set” they are furnitures most likely chair or table that is the main material is bamboo. The people also sell it on the city for a higher income. The professional people knows how to do different designs like double deck bed, a chair that can possibly turn into a bed and et cetera.

  • The noise is less than the city. We don't have much vehicles, the only available is tricycle and motorcycle. Thus, the sound of the engines doesn't hurt so much compared to the city. Luckily, our barangay has a small road and the tricycle cannot go on it, it is a one-way road. So, the only noise that we usually heard is the engine of motorcycle and the boats.

  • Less pollution. As what we have mentioned above, we only have two common [land] vehicles; motorcycle and tricycle. Hence, the pollution in our barangay is not more than the city. It is a great sign for us for a better health, the only pollution that we have is water pollution. It seems that people are still undisciplined and loves throwing their waste on the lake, sad but true. Hopefully that the barangay official will do their best to solve this problem.

There are still advantages but I only included the common one, we only need to do one thing and it is don't abuse these advantages, use it wisely.

Of course, we also have disadvantages that we need to consider and remember. It is kinda annoying but we need to understand.

What are the disadvantages?

There's a lot of disadvantage in living in a remote area, since it is more likely “uncivilized” and “late blooming” the resources are limited.

  • We have poor internet connection. It seems that our barangay is one of the unlucky places in this island, why? Because among all barangays, we are one of the brgy. that has a poor connection. There are parts of the house where you need to position just to get a signal, even you are standing, you need to do it to have a signal. Hence, this is one of the problems of being a student especially that we will have an online class. We are expecting “reconnecting” in the start of the class.

  • There's a sudden blackout. When there's a massive rain or even a windy weather, the only thing that you can feel is nervousness. Because you will think if the electricity will collapse and cause a black out. This is the time where your family will get everything to charge their phone and flashlight. Recently,I posted about the blackout and it took a day for the official to fix it.

Click this to see the post.

  • The resources and facilities are limited. I bet that most of you on the vehicle called “ambulance” well, in this place the risk is higher than the city. It is because if someone is dying, you will need to ride in a boat first specifically “speed boat” when you arrived on the city, it is the time that you will go and ride the ambulance. If you are unlucky, you will die immediately on the boat trip and doesn't arrive on the hospital alive.

There are more disadvantage but these are the common and usually happens in our place. Hopefully that in the future, we we will overcome it and live more peacefully.

Conclusion

Our place has a lot of imperfections, but there are things that we need to remember; don't abuse its advantages and make a solution to solve the current problem on your community. In this way, the residents will be happier and choose to stay.

We always have different perception, it is always depend on a person. The best thing that you can do is to look on its brighter side and solve the current and future problems.

And, I love the idea na maraming bangus sa inyooo. Grabe!

I want to live in the province but what I know, or maybe I was influenced by social media that it is still hard to live there, when you are not born there. It is hard to adjust. But I think it depends on how you accept your decision where you want to live. You have lots of good points here. Thumbs up!!

I love living in a remote area. I guess where we live in since I was a child is more of a remote area in a small city. Things I love the most is the nature, less pollution, and more affordable products. I don't think I can live in a big city for a long period of time.

For me, there are no PROs for living in a remote area. My late husband once told me that if I ever left the city I would never survive. I didn't argue with him. Instead I told him he was absolutely right! I am too accustomed to the modern conveniences of city life.

I live here in remote areas and you're right abut having those disadvantages ..but instead I worry about those things I just enjoy being here and less polution. fresh air.😊I'm lucky enough that the signal here is a little bit strong

I love to live in an environment where there is calm, tranquility and enough social amenities. Away from the bustling and noise that causes a lot of dysfunction tongue human nature.

Where there is local food and farm and river when you can go fun-fishing on a weekend.

That's the kind of life or place I will like to live in no matter what the pros cons maybe.

Then living in a countryside is better, the natural beauty of our environment makes it peaceful.

This is all true! 😆 Having a poor network signal is annoying.

Hmm, looks like you're living by the sea. As for me, I live by the valleys. The sea is a bit far from us but we're also considered as a remote area. But, if ever I would choose the city or the country, I would still choose the countryside because they don't have Covid-19 there and the water is free from the springs. 😆

Yang signal at sudden blackouts ang palagi naming problema dito sa lugar namin. Halos everyday pa nga ang power interruptions, kaya nasisira ang iba naming gamit. Minsan matagal pa babalik ang kuryente.
