This is not a magic, but I know that you are reading this while you are sitting or maybe lying down, this is one of the examples of…

…continue to read to know the secret of magic!

The pandemic caused a lot of changes not only on our surroundings but also in ourselves, habit, and the way of living. Everything amid of this catastrophe is working virtually because of different safety protocols implemented by the government.

As a result, most of the people are living virtually—figuratively, little did they know that this habit will have a lot of bad effects on our health. This is related on a type of lifestyle that we called sedentary lifestyle.

What is sedentary lifestyle?

According to Wikipedia, it is a type of lifestyle involving little or no physical activity. A person living a sedentary lifestyle is often sitting or lying down while engaged in an activity like socializing, watching television, playing video games, reading, or using mobile phone and computer for much of the day.

Today, we are experiencing this type of lifestyle as most of the things are working virtually even the communication, way of teaching (which is online and modular class), freelancing, and even in trading cryptocurrency.

As the DemystifyingMedicine said, we are sitting for more than 6 hours a day which is considered as a long span of time sitting.

What are the possible effects of sitting for too long?

Sitting for too long can obviously lessen your exercise. Exercise is very important for every person, in fact, even five minutes of walking everyday will have a good outcome on our physical and mental health.

As suggests by one study, only 21% of adults are meeting the physical activity guidelines, while less than 5% perform 30 minutes of physical activity per day.

The study shows how few people are having a good lifestyle as they are having physical activity per day. Lack of exercise can cause different issues on our health. Thus, a simple bending of our body every morning can help you to be a physically fit.

Sedentary lifestyle can cause weight gain. This effect is common, as the fats were stored on our body for long time, every time we eat, we always want to sit immediately but this habit has a bad effect on our health.

The research found that men who spent more time sitting than usual, gained more weight around the middle, which is the most dangerous place to store fat.

So, if you are having belly fats, better to think and start exercising to lessen the risk. Also, it can help you to improve your immune system and fight the effects of sedentary lifestyle.

It can cause headache, migraine, and poor eyesight. As we are staring on our gadgets, the number of blinks per minute that we are doing are lessen and that simple changes can affect your health.

Based on my research, over a third of adults spend more than half their day using technology, while others have admitted their technology usage consumes 10-12 hours of their time per day.

Unfortunately, this habit can cause the common effect which is poor eyesight due to overexpose of our eyes and headache, this is happening because our eyes is connected to our brain. When we stare on our gadgets for the long period of time, eye strain will occur that can trigger our brain and cause a headache.

How to solve this?

However, we can mitigate these effects with the help of ourselves and knowledge about health. This can be resolved with the simple way of discipline of ourselves and knowing the basic things to know such as:

  • You can stand every 30 minutes and bend your knees, arms and parts of body that has joints. In this simple step, you can lessen the number of hours that you spend sitting. You can also answer your phone calls while standing and walking on your house so you can still use your body even in a short period of time, trust me, it is a big progress.

  • In your eyesight, you can apply the 20-20-20 habit, every time you spend 20 minutes on your gadgets, have a look on something 20 feet away for 20 seconds and more. This is a big help to rest your eyes.

  • Add exercise to your schedule even 10 minutes of your day, it cannot waste your time, wherein fact, it can help you not only physically but also mentally.

Conclusion

In this time of pandemic, we need to learn and know how to care on ourselves and on our health. We need to have a strong immune system to fight the possible virus or disease that we will encounter. Don’t forget to move and use your body so you can avoid sedentary lifestyle and lessen its risk.
