Proscription Should Never Be An Option

It has been evidenced that alcohol drives individuals to commit crimes such as domestic violence, sexual assault, robbery, child abuse, manslaughter, and even murder. Seeing that alcoholism may lead to such problems, banning of liquors is being considered. However, I oppose the proposal of alcohol prohibition.

We have four arguments to take account of. First of all, mentioning an incident way back in 1920, America commenced the prohibition of liquor. Unfortunately, this move did not go well as expected. Illicit businesses were set up by crime organizations. This includes smuggling liquors and establishing speakeasies. Secondly, distilleries, breweries, and wineries' employees will lose their jobs because of such prohibition. Third, in my judgment, there are no grounds for us to ban alcohol as long as we take it in moderation as the studies show it reduces our risk of developing heart disease, ischemic stroke, and diabetes. Lastly, distilleries, breweries, and wineries are some of the great contributors of taxes to the government which is being used in building infrastructures. In conclusion, proscription will not accomplish social improvements.
