Words can kill!

Hello everyone, how are you doing today? I was quite busy today because I was running errands for my mom and I also had to visit someone who I haven't seen for a while. I was finally free later in the evening and I felt like relaxing my brain before interacting here on readcash, what better way to relax than with a movie?

The movie I watched is called transcendence, and it's about a man that got his consciousness uploaded into a quantum computer by his wife to save him, but that turned out to be a very horrible choice. The main actor is Johnny Depp and Morgan Freeman also starred in it, it's a great movie overall.

I couldn't finish the movie because I had to figure out what to write this evening, and I decided to sniff around nairaland for a juicy article and I found one. A lady narrated the horrible experience she has at a job interview recently and I felt really sad for her.

When she got to the interview, she met a man and two ladies, they are the people that will be interviewing her. After a series of questions which she answered excellently, the man suddenly asked her if she was married and she replied that she's currently single. He then asked again if she was married in the past, she replied that she was married and she was still explaining that she had to leave because of domestic violence but the man didn't let her finish.

He cut her off mid-sentence and said; "young lady there's no need to go ahead with anything else again. Since you couldn't manage to stay back and remain married, is it the company that you can be able to manage?" He ended it with; "just forget about the job". The two ladies that were there with him were shocked by the whole thing.

The young lady held back tears till she got home and cried her eyes out, that was a very devasting experience. The interviewer was very callous for making such remarks about a person's past marriage, what right does he have to judge her managerial skills based on a failed marriage? I felt really bad for the way she was treated, now imagine how she will be feeling.

Some people will tell you to ignore what people say and just focus on yourself (I agree with that as well), but do you know that it's not actually easy to ignore? Sure, you might not react right there as the person says those words, but you will end up thinking about them later on, where it becomes a problem is when you let the words weigh you down.

There are usually two ways to handle such situations; you either let those words keep you down or you pick yourself up and keep moving, now which option is better? Again, it isn't easy to just pick yourself up but no one said it's ever going to be easy. You will always come across people that will be rude and insensitive with their words, you just have to remain strong hence you fall into depression.

Things like these are even worse on social media, you will come across all form of cyberbullies who hide behind their keyboard and throw words around like grenades, not minding who get caught in the blast. The keyboard warriors who are prepared to kill with their words all in the name of catching "fun", they forget that not everyone can take those cyberbullying.

Some people have developed thick skins and are impervious to the sharp edges of cruel words everyone isn't the same and some people break down easily and fall into depression. I remember a case some years back of a model that committed suicide after she was verbally abused on Twitter, someone even said "go and kill yourself".

Now she's probably on the brink of depression and that push was all she needed to take her life. It's like a person standing on a cliff and wondering if she should jump or not then suddenly, someone pushed her from behind, that's the power of words, it can take lives.

Depression is real and sometimes it takes just a few words just for a person to start getting depressed. You might say some words to a person and it will seem like they aren't affected by it and don't react negatively, but they will end up thinking about it eventually and those that aren't strong mentally will fall into depression.

Minding the way we talk isn't rocket science, you don't know what the next person is passing through and the least we can do is to be nice to everyone. The male interviewer didn't have to be insensitive and wicked, he could have kept his thoughts to himself but he just had to open his mouth and spew rubbish which wasn't necessary.

The lady has probably been traumatized by this experience and might be reluctant to go for another interview in the future. Words are very powerful and can cause a lot of damage, so we should be mindful of the way we use them. You don't know the effect your words will have on someone's life, so why use them wrongly when you can be nicer?

Thanks for reading πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–

No he visto la pelΓcula, pero debemos de ser sutil a la hora de entrevistar a alguien, las palabras han marcado la vida de las personas, es mΓ‘s destrosan hasta el Alma, hay que saber decir las cosas para no marcar la vida de las personas.

Such a cruel man, he could have at least let her finish her explanation before making such a conclusive and derrogatory remark. I just feel sad for her. People cannot sensor what comes out of their loud mouth at all...

If I were her, I would give the man a piece of my mind before leaving...the man get luck say nor be me he jam.

🀣 I trust you na, the man never jam person like you. The lady already lost the job so she had nothing to lose, she should have given the man a piece of werey before leaving, but I guess not everyone can do that

Try not to ruminate on negative thoughts! One can be their own worst enemy at times!

I have watched that movie and it's really a nice one. The more people become sensitized and made to see the evil impacts their comments could have on a person's life, the more lives and dreams will be savaged

Exactly o, words have ruined lives more than we know, most people just keep their awful experiences to themselves but these things happens everyday

That interviewer is very mean. For Godsake there are other ways of telling her that she won't be given the job. What about "we will get back to you later" which is commonly used to dismiss applicants that were not chosen. Or let's say he had a bitter heartbreak or divorce experience in the past and he's hell bent on taking it out on all women.

That's exactly what most people said on nairaland, that he is probably a woman-beater that's why he will say a person should remain in a abusive marriage. Since he knows he can't give her the job based on his weird reason, why not just dismiss her nicely?

I agree that we cannot simply ignore what is spoken to us, which is why, as a child, I preferred punishment to being talked to anyhow

Even how many times I've been told to ignore what other people say, it is not really as easy as how they say it. Especially when you are been under a circumstances that you are being eaten by the thoughts in mind. Negative thoughts!

Definitely, if you're currently going through that circumstance and someone starts making fun about it, it makes it harder to ignore

Gosh, I feel sorry for the lady and the trauma she might got because of that comment. Just because of the past situation the interviewer judge her personality. But you are right, harsh words like these are very visible specially in our times now. So for me the best thing to do is move on and be better. Don't mind what other people might tell you, instead know your worth.

Words can really kill that's why we should be mindful in everything we have said because we can't take it back after being said.

Exactly, the damage has already been done as soon we say those words

Humans must be careful how they assess other people's pasts; we have no idea what others are going through, and a single remark can either soothe or relieve them, or force them to do something they don't want to do.

The interviewer or HR is a terrible human to have said that to her. For God's sake why can't these people be professional for once! Or is that act professionalism? That's why to go for all these interviews dey tire me. They will just be acting as if they're God. I feel for the lady
