Leadership is just a huge stress

Howdy folks, how are you all doing today? Christmas is drawing closer and I can already start feeling it in the air, probably because the weather has started getting really cold.

I left the house before 7am today and that was when I noticed the atmosphere is really foggy and cold. I love how it felt on my skin seeing as the air is saturated with water.

Ok back to the topic, who else feels being a leader is huge stress? As a lot of my lecturers in the university have said, the hardest thing to manage in this world is humans and they are right.

You can easily control and manage animals, push them in a direction you want and they will follow, but humans are even more stubborn and difficult to push. You will end up with headaches just because of a few people that you're leading and it's because of that I usually shy away from leadership positions.

One thing I have noticed in the university is that the moment you're made a leader and the people you're leading see you as someone capable, hardworking, and easy to manipulate, then expect them to leave all the work to you.

People love to have someone they can bend to their will in power, so they can be a form of underground leader while operating in the shadows, manipulating the real leader like a puppet while protecting themselves from repercussions and consequences brought upon by their bad decisions.

Where are all these coming from? I witnessed something from one of my classmates yesterday that made me laugh at how cunning some humans can be. We have a class representative (class rep) who is responsible for making decisions on behalf of the class, but he has been compromised.

Compromised in the sense that some persons have him in their hands and they use him to manipulate things which they can't do because they will be met by strong resistance.

But unfortunately for them, we also have an assistant class rep who is always there to checkmate the moves of the class rep, and she's a tough nut to crack (I am talking about my dear friend @mhizutty 😆).

So because of that resistance, whenever a decision is made by the assistant class rep and some persons aren't cool with it, they secretly cry to the class rep and try to get him to change the decision in their favor, I mean talk about being obnoxious!

Back to the little something I said I witnessed today from one of my classmates, but I will like to start from the top. One of our lecturers gave us a project to do some weeks back, but it failed and he said we should do it again but everyone didn't want to do it because it costs money and it's quite stressful.

The class rep is hardly around and no one wants to go meet the lecturer to see how we can come to a compromise with him and see if we can reduce the cost, but finally one of my classmates cared enough to salvage the situation so she and the assistant class rep went to meet the lecturer.

They finally got him to compromise on the project and he told them that "only those around should participate in the project". What did he mean by that statement? He knows that a lot of people no longer come to school because we are done with our exams, so he said that as a way of punishing those that aren't around.

But my classmate and the assistant class rep decided to just include the entire class, so they announced it on our class Whatsapp group, but the class rep saw it and told her to delete it because the person that posted it isn't in any leadership position.

He later said he will be the one that will meet with the lecturer and announce to the whole class what to do (jealous? Maybe). After that, he didn't even come to school to meet the lecturer, so some of us that were always in school decided to just go ahead with the project.

The day of the project was yesterday, and we planned the project according to the money we have at hand which was contributed by all of us interested in the project. The assistant class rep and my classmate in charge of the project went to buy the materials needed for the project.

When they got back, one of my classmates tried to pay so she can be included in the project, but they refuse to collect the money from her, and she blew up like a volcano.

She was told that we already bought the materials needed for it and her money is no longer needed, if she wants to still do the project she and others that are still interested should go and buy their materials, but she refused.

She kept shouting that the person talking to her doesn't have any right to tell her something like that since she's not the class rep, that only the class rep has the power to make decisions like embarking on a project.

But unfortunately for her, the lecturer didn't put the course rep in charge of the project, but it was someone else that's in charge and the person in charge is telling her she can no longer join. At one point it was about to get physical, but fortunately, the farm manager came out from his office and diffuse the whole situation.

My classmate that was in charge of the project hasn't always been in a leadership position, she was just in charge for just a few days and she was already been dragged to hell by some crazy classmates. That day she made a bunch of new enemies, simply because they can't bend her to their will.

That's how a leader should be, you should be someone that can't be compromised, you shouldn't change decisions on the fly simply because someone tells you he/she isn't cool with it. You shouldn't show everyone that you are weak and can be influenced to make decisions.

A leader shouldn't be afraid to make enemies, and my class rep is someone that doesn't want to make enemies but he is forgetting that you can't please everyone. You got to be ready to step on some toes when you make decisions, coz some there are always going to be people that want things handed to them on a platter of gold.

I shy away from leadership positions because I know I will be ruthless when I am in one, my friends might even end up hating me because I am also going to handle them with an iron fist 😆 I am someone that doesn't like unfair treatment, my decisions are meant to be applied to everyone; friend or foe.

Thanks for reading 💖💖💖

If we are chosen as a leader it is very stressful especially that there is no cooperation. I feel that 😔

If everyone can cooperate then it will make the work of the leader much easier

Being a leader is really not easy. The worst part is that just and honest leaders are hardly chosen because the powers that people knows that it would be hard to compromise them. Even if they get eventually elected or appointed, they might not last long ,or later resign when they become fed up with the frustrations. Thats why in nigeria, it is only the crooked and corrupt that succeed in politics. Some of the people you are trying to lead might even set traps for you just to tarnish your reputation. I saw a quote: If you want people to like you, don't be a leader, sell ice cream.... On a lighter note, I don't fancy the idea of me being the overall leader, I rather be a deputy or one of the cabals controlling the president. Its easier that way as nobody would ever think I am part of the problem, the president gets all the blame.. Lol😂

I love that quote 😂 I will make sure to say it to my class rep anytime he is being indecisive.

There's nothing wrong when you choose to be a shadow leader, it becomes a problem when you're doing it for your own selfish interest and not for the benefit of everyone

I've been a leader so many times, I guess every school year and I hate it. I know I've gotten used to it but sometimes I just couldn't help myself not to complain especially if my members are hard-headed and won't know how to listen.

Seems like you're born to be a leader 😁 it actually do get easy after a while because you would have gotten a lot of experience along the line, unless you don't really learn from your mistakes

It is very important to know the difference between a boss and a leader. Leadership is a virtue, a leader is chosen by the masses, a boss can be imposed. A boss can take arbitrary measures in search of benefits not always for the majority and exercises authority. But a leader, as you say, has to be able to strike a balance to get positive results. On the other hand, the lack of companionship in their group did not like me, they could have reached an agreement to include the girl.

Wow, your comment is beautiful and makes a lot of sense! I am glad to know that there's a difference between a boss and a leader, all the points you gave are accurate. The girl could have been nice when asking to be included, but she was feeling entitled and she got the result for her bitchy attitude

Haha agree with you, animals can be controlled easily because they cannot think for themselves unlike humans with their personal egos... leader's job is very tough indeed.. take a wolf pack, once they accepted an wolf as their leader, they all obey the command of the leader and do exactly what he wants to.. but humans include their personal agendas and mess everything up for everyone

It's that personal agenda that's part of the problem when it comes to leadership, you all always have selfish people that tend to get close to the leader to see if they can influence decisions that will only favor them

Being a leader is not easy at all, your decision should be better though so many people won't agree to your decision but as time goes on, they will start to like you for being a better leader.

The trick to being a good leader is to be on the good side of the majority of the people you're leading. If majority of them likes you, then the minority that hate you are the problem

For me. As long as you know that you are doing the right thing, the liking doesn't really matter, they might condemn you tho, but as time goes on, they will get to understand.

That's what we are facing in this economy now 😅 we miss GEJ

The pressure is on when you become a leader, like what you have said. Its so stressful, especially when they expect to have a great outcome..

The pressure is just too much and a lot of people expects to be pleased and for things to go their way

I agree with you that there will be some extra pressure on you whenever you lead or hold a senior position. And that's the rule. When you lead a job, you have some extra work to do, and that's why it's stressful.

The stress also arises from people that are there to frustrate the leader, but a good leader should know how to stand firm and be ready for the extra pressure

Being leader is highly needed a braver attributes. It should possess all the things needed to be followed by his/her followers. Somehow being a leader is pressure thats why leader cannot stand on their own he/she needs cooperation as well from his/her group.

The problem comes when the leader is someone that isn't brave and can't withstand pressure, he will end up making decisions that's influenced by someone else

Many times we criticize the bosses. I invite anyone to put themselves in your shoes, for a few minutes, to see that it is not easy to make decisions and look good with everyone.

Something like this happened in my class, some persons that are always criticizing the leaders were told to be the leader for 2 weeks to know how it feels, they regretted it later
