Isn't this better than cold revenge?

I absolutely love the weather throughout today, it has been quite cold. It suddenly got dark in the morning because of the rain clouds that gathered in most parts of my city, I was getting ready for a serious downpour but surprisingly it drizzled for a few minutes and stopped, but the weather still maintained its dark gloomy look like it lost a bet or something 😆.

Anyways, I was reading @Theblackdoll article a few hours ago and she wrote a very interesting story about being kind. I always love when she tells stories like this, they are always very interesting and have lots of life lessons and I am here to talk about one of them I got from her recent story (you can read the story here, trust me it's very interesting 😉)

What do you usually do when someone has betrayed you? A lot of people will settle for petty revenge and will look for ways to pay the person back. This sort of behavior isn't only peculiar to betrayal, it cuts across other forms of wrongdoings that leave a person in serious disappointment and heartbreak.

Let me give a quick scenario. David has lost everything in life and sorts the help of one of his friends; Peter, who he has helped in the past. He asks Peter if he can stay with him for a few weeks so he can get his life together but Peter refused and said it will be inconvenient for him.

David leaves dejected and frustrated, he has no option but to sleep outdoors. A stranger approached him and wondered why he is sleeping outside. The stranger introduces himself as Ken and got David to tell him his story. After David finished telling his story, Ken found out that he is very skilled so he decided to help him.

David got back to the top with the help of Ken and became very successful. After some years, David established his own company and became a very wealthy CEO. One day, he noticed a young man in his reception hall looking like he has been in a fight with life and lost badly. He approached the man and discovered it is Peter, his old friend!

Peter didn't recognize him immediately and started pleading that he seriously need a job and he has been searching for a very long time. David introduced himself to Peter and he was shocked, he couldn't say anything. He suddenly remembered what he did to David many years ago and he wished the floor will just open and swallow him.

At this point I will like to ask; if you were to be David, what will you do? A lot of people will see this as a very good opportunity to carry out their revenge, an eye for an eye, right? They say revenge is a dish best served cold, this revenge has gone beyond cold, it's already ice 😆 which makes it perfect to dish out.

But do you know what's even better? Forgiveness. David can easily tell Peter that he won't give him a job because of what he did years ago and then send him out of his company, that will make him feel really good, right? Probably, but we should remember that two evil never make a right.

David might feel good about himself but it will only last for a while and that's one of the side effects of revenge; you will feel empty after it has been accomplished. Here is where it gets worse: Peter may end up not being remorseful! At that point, he may feel bad in front of David and will still feel that way for a couple of days, but he will shrug it off and move on.

David might be thinking that Peter is feeling bad for what he did and hence his revenge is complete but most people aren't wired that way, they move on from things quickly and some persons do this by turning their guilt into hate and start holding a grudge, and the funny thing with this is that it's going to affect both parties involved; both of them starts holding grudges!

What's the better option? That will be for David to forgive Peter and offer him a job in his company. Peter won't be expecting that and will be shocked when David does that, he won't be comfortable with it and will start wondering if it's a setup. He breaks down from all the guilt and tears start falling freely from his eyes, he is overwhelmed by the kind gesture from David which was unexpected.

And there lies another trick; be unpredictable! Do things out of the norm in situations like that, the other person won't expect it and it will hurt more than revenge. Peter will start working in David's company and both of them will start hanging out like before, but that guilt will always be there and he will never forget.

The good thing with something like this is that it sometimes breeds a very loyal person, after all, you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar, although there are a few exceptions to this. An eye for an eye will make the world go blind, revenge isn't always the answer.

What do you do when there's a fire and you need to put it off, do you bring in another fire to fight the first one? Of course not, you make use of the opposite element which is water (well, unless you're a firebender 😆). You don't fight fire with fire, so why repay wrongdoing with your own wrong? Why not try being kind? After all, it has an even stronger effect than revenge.
