I woke up quite early today (about 5am) which is probably because I slept off while using my phone last night, and I woke up with the phone still in my hands 😅.
I considered sleeping off again and waking up by 6am or there about to start preparing for class, but I know I won't be able to pull that off, I will probably end up getting up by 8am.
Although I have a friend (his name is Gift) who has now become my personal alarm system (I sleep like the dead, so regular alarms can't wake me 😂).
He usually bangs on my door to wake me up and to start getting ready. We are coursemates, so we always go to classes together with another friend (Collins) who lives in the same lodge as us.
Seeing as I can't go back to sleep and I'm not yet fully awake to start reading articles on this platform, I decided to download some movies.
I remembered princessbusayo talking about a horror movie in one of her articles (check it out here). The name of the movie is don't breathe and I searched for it online but I couldn't find it in the usual place I download movies.
She also recommended another movie (the silence), so I searched for that one and found it. After downloading the movie, I was now fully awake to explore other activities.
I remembered seeing a notification of a new article by tiredmomma last night (this must be around the time I slept off), so I started with that. It was a really interesting read and a great article to kick off the day (you can read about it here).
Shortly after that, I heard Gift opening his door and his footstep approaching my door.
Knock knock
Me: yes?
Gift: (no response).
I knew he wanted to see my face to know if I'm just waking up, but he is in for a huge surprise. I opened my door with bright eyes and a smirk on my face, he just looked at me and said I should start getting ready.
I just locked my door and went to the kitchen. First off I warmed the food from the previous night, that's gonna be my breakfast. After that, I brushed my teeth, took my bath, dressed up, and started eating.
After eating, I decided to go through my favorite online forum (nairaland.com) while waiting for Gift to finish getting ready and call me.
While going through the homepage of nairaland, a certain headline caught my eye; Annie Idibia Drags 2Face Idibia On Instagram Over One Of His Baby Mamas.
2Face is a popular Nigerian musician and is married to Annie Idibia. They have been married for years and everyone believes they are living peacefully, but that doesn't seem to be the case now.
I wouldn't want to go into the details of it, you can check out the full gist from this Instagram page
A while later, Gift showed up and we were ready to leave. But I noticed someone missing.
Me: where's Ruth? (Another of our friends that sleeps over most of the time)
Gift: She went home last night. She will meet us in school.
I knew Collins already left earlier to go check on the eggs we incubated yesterday. Speaking of which;
Update on our artificial breeding
In case you missed my previous article about the artificial breeding we carried out yesterday, you can read all about it here: Take a walk with me.
We arrived at school a couple of minutes later after meeting up with Ruth and Karen (another friend and the last member of the gang). We immediately went straight to the hatchery tank. What we saw was in one word; disaster.
Looks like all the eggs were dead. The artificial breeding we did wasn't successful and all of us were wondering what happened. We checked out the second hatchery tank and it looked like the same thing happened.
With careful observation, we noticed there are a few green eggs, which means there's still hope that they will hatch. The cold weather also played a part in the failure of the eggs to hatch.
We were still there with our sad faces looking at the eggs and thinking of the next step to take when Ruth excitedly said "I can see one fry!" (a young fish).
Me: Where? I'm not seeing anything.
Ruth: Look at this place I'm pointing, there's something moving.
Me: Those are shadows, I don't think there's anything there.
Ruth: Shadows of what exactly? Please Karen take a look at this place and tell me if something is moving.
Karen: Yeah there's a fry there. I can see something moving.
Me: (Thinking) Ah! Or is something wrong with my eyes? Why am I the only one not seeing anything? I need to call someone to support me.
Me: Gift, Come check this thing out. Ruth said she saw something.
Ruth: Just look at this exact place I'm pointing.
Gift: Yes I can see a fry.
Me: (Thinking again) wtf! is this a setup? Let me change position and look at it from another angle.
Me: oh, I have seen it now. It's still attached to the egg (sorry I don't have a picture of it, it's too small to be captured by my camera).
Looks like there's hope! Later in the afternoon we checked it out again and we saw more have hatched, but a majority of them died. Well, seeing as it's our first time, there will always be room for improvement.
We will be sleeping at the farm today because those hatchlings require constant attention and will die if left alone throughout the night. My gang and I will be on duty tonight, then another group will take over tomorrow night.
They won't be accepting external food for now because they still have food that came with their eggs (the yolk sac). They will start accepting food from us after three days when their yolk sac has been exhausted.
You might be wondering what then we are going to be doing since we aren't feeding them; well, we going to be doing constant water circulation. We have to constantly keep the water clean and clear of impurities.
Looks like we have a lot of work on our hands and it's actually this part (night duty) that I hate the most. Although we have where to sleep, we will still get attacked by mosquitoes 😥
I still have the movie I downloaded earlier today, so I will be watching that later at night. I will also watch season 5 of money heist (yay it's finally out!), So I guess I have a lot to keep me busy tonight.
Thanks everyone for taking the time to read my article, and see you all next time.

This is one thing that makes me avoid hatching, it requires a lot of attention and time.
I am glad some were able to survive, a lot of factors result in the white egg, and I hope you check into that properly.
