Today I'm going to discuss what is Migraine Headaches and how to prevent or treat it at home. I did a lot of research about it through the internet and lots of relevant books.

First, what is "Migraine Headaches"? It is not just an ordinary type of headache s. Migraine Headaches have very specific symptoms. You see, they are also called "Vascular Headaches", because of the reason that they are believed to be caused by changes in the flow of blood in the vessels of the head. Symptoms of the migraine include throbbing pain on one or both sides of the head and sensitivity to light or noise. Because migraines may also cause nausea or vomiting, they are sometimes called "sick" headaches.

Although the headache comes on quite suddenly, it is sometimes preceded by visual disturbances such as zig-zag lines, called an aura. Dizziness and numbness on one side of the body may also precede a migraine. This type of headache may last from few hours to a few days, and re occur from several times a week to once every few years.

Migraines are more common in women. The headaches may begin during childhood, but this type of headache mostly begins during the teens and early twenties. As you can see, based on my experienced this data is true. Because my mom and grandma were experiencing it a lot. It hurts to see them hurt but all I can do is care for them and I bet you are too.

Prevention

I did a little research on how to prevent this kind of headaches. And as a result, I found out some ways or techniques. First, keep a diary of your headache symptoms known as "Tracking your Headaches". Once you know what events, foods, medications or activities bring on a headache, you can or may be able to prevent or limit their recurrence.

Home Treatment

Here are the list of how you can treat this type of headache at home;

  • Lie down in a darkened room at home at the first sign of migraine. Relax the entire body, starting with the forehead and eyes and working down to the toe.

  • Many people find aspirin, acetaminophen, or Ibuprofen helps to relieve a migraine. But I don't recommend this option because the more you take these drugs, the more your body becomes immune to it leading to taking more and more higher dosage of drugs.

  • If a doctor has prescribed medication for your migraines, take the recommended dose at the first sign that a migraine is starting.

  • If you use over-the-counter or prescriptions headache medications too often, they may actually make the headaches more frequent or severe. If this occurs, call for your doctor's advice.

  • Most migraine headaches will require professional diagnosis and treatment.

So that's it,Thank you for reading and I hope you appreciate it.
