A Letter To My Dear Old Self: Hey, 6 year-old Kirsten, Today is a happy birthday, not because we received a plethora of gifts or nothing bad happened this day, but because of the people who have shown how much they truly love us. This year's birthday is spectacular. Nobody has stolen our birthday today, as someone did when we were six. Unlike our 7th birthday party, everyone we invited showed up. We're not alone anymore, kid. We have a few friends, but I can assure you that they are all genuine. I'm still working on letting go of the past, and you're sadly one of them. Thank you for sticking with me the entire effing way; you have bruises all over you that bother you from time to time, but they will heal someday. Just don't give up and keep your head up like you always do. Come here and let me fix your long shiny hair and apply some ointment to your battle scars. Put on this periwinkle gown, and I'll let you out of this echo chamber maze when you're ready. Someday, I won't lock you up in this core again. We've got this, kid! Happy birthday.
