IoT or Internet of Things I have heard the word many times but many of us do not know about it. Today I will tell you what this Internet of Things is all about. How we use them, and why.

Well then what is IoT

All electronic devices directly connected to the Internet are called IoT or IoT devices. This means that if you connect any electronic device to the Internet, it will become an IoT device.

You may be reading this article now sitting in front of a smart phone or a computer. Your mobile phone and computer are both IoT devices. You have a smartwatch in your hand, it will actually show notifications from Facebook and it will also show which email you actually have. Then this smartwatch in your hand is an IoT device.

You have CCTV cameras installed in your office and home. You went out of the country for some reason. Now if you want to sit abroad and watch everything in your home and office with CCTV camera, then all you have to do is connect your home and office CCTV camera to the internet. Then your home and office CCTV camera system will become an IoT system. Then we easily understood what IoT is. How easily we use it and how we can benefit from it.

There are billions of such electronic devices around the world that are directly connected to the Internet. IoT devices can be connected to any type of Internet connection, whether wired or wireless. IoT devices can be of any shape. Some devices are made specifically for small tasks. In order to perform certain tasks, sensors attached to the devices are used to collect data according to a pre-determined program inside the device, or the device continues to collect or exchange information through the use of the Internet.

Many of us have heard of smart home security systems. Here we also know how the security system actually works. If a stranger wants to enter your home, you will receive a message or call on your mobile phone. Let you know that someone is breaking down the door or trying to break into your home. Then you will take the necessary action.

The entire smart home security system is being controlled by an Internet-based electronics device. So this smart home security system is an IoT device. Many types of sensors are installed inside many cars these days. GPS system is installed by which we can easily go to unfamiliar places by using digital map. This modern system inside the car is an IoT system

Type of IoT device

There are different types of IoT devices. As such some IoT devices just collect data. Some devices send the collected information elsewhere while some devices carry out the work with the information as instructed. According to the theory, there is no difference between IoT devices, but the devices are different according to the type of work. Small is big or like to transport. But the function of all devices is to collect data and store data in cloud storage using the Internet. Reuse data from cloud storage as needed.

Why IoT is needed

By 2020, the total use of IoT devices in the world will increase to 26 billion. And the business value of these 26 billion devices will increase to 19 trillion dollars. Which is a much larger number. So it is a big lucrative sector for technology traders. And of these large numbers of smart IoT devices, the most common use will be for handheld and smart home security systems. But why do ordinary users like us need these or how can we benefit from them? Look at the smartphone in your hand or the computer above your desk to understand how our lives are involved with it. These are all IoT devices.

The use of smartphones is increasing day by day and the use of other smart devices that can be used with smartphones is also increasing. New and different types of smart devices are constantly coming in the market. We are using them for some hobby or some for our needs. Now you are beginning to understand how we are increasing the use of IoT or smart devices for our daily needs or security.

Smart devices are all around us. Let's take the smart watch that diagnoses heartbeat, we use it to watch the normal activities of our heart through the smartphone. Again for security we use CCTV camera connected to the internet. We use GPS tracking system in the car to prevent theft. We can recover the car even if the thief steals and escapes. We know all this. We use IoT devices for different needs. And the use of IoT will be just as important to us as this need is.

IoT start history

Ideas and research on the use of sensors and intelligent devices began in the 1980s and 1990s. Then began the study of the use of an electronics device by a network. Although the Internet was then a research project. This means that even then the internet has not become suitable for use. Some small research work was going on then. Such as Internet-connected Vending Machine and RFID security systems. All of today's technology is a major factor in research in the '80s. All types of processor chips and ICs were then much more expensive and under testing. So they could not be used easily.

IoT was introduced in the late 90's when research on RFID was completed and its use was successful. In 1999, MIT researcher Kevin Ashton was the first to use the term "Internet of Things". The use of RFID is spread by his hands. He expanded the use of sensors by network, which he called the Internet of Things to everyone. The idea of IoT comes from controlling the machine by wireless connection.

To control a machine kept in one place remotely by another machine. The control system must be automatic. The machine will work by wireless or wired connection without any human help. So that no man has to be an operator. This system is called machine to machine. Its job was to control everything according to the program and collect and store information or send that information elsewhere using the network.

This machine-to-machine system later introduced smart device controlled connectivity through the use of sensors and software in modern technology. Which connects billions of people together in one network. This makes it possible to collect and store a lot of information and data. Now this machine-to-machine system is connected to the Internet and the use of software or program dependent modern smart devices is known as IoT.

The future of IoT

IoT is a much larger industry and the use is slowly growing more and more. Increased business potential. All the technology companies in the world are now dependent on the business of IoT devices. Because its use is increasing a lot every year. And what's not in the smart IoT device? Almost all types of electronic devices can now be connected to the Internet. The amount of smart devices used inside everything from home refrigerators to home doors has boosted the business of device manufacturers.

Analyst Gartner calculates that 8.4 billion IoT devices were used in 2017, up 31 percent from 2016 and increasing to 20.4 billion by 2020. According to other research institutes, the amount is much higher. About 26 billion. According to IDC, 772.5 billion worth of IoT devices were used worldwide in 2018. In 2020 it will be 1 trillion and in 2021 it will be 1.1 trillion dollars. As IHS, the use of IoT will increase by 12 percent per year by 2030. Which will amount to 125 billion devices.

So it means the future. As its value increases commercially, so will the number of users. And where the number of users will increase the potential of the sector is much higher.
