According to one of the staking collection on #Rplanet - Androbots, I quote "$Aether should be entirely depleted within more or less 250 days, at which point rigs and aether generating items will cease to produce aether and then it will become a token traded between players with much higher scarcity and also price, it will also be used in the rplanet game itself for various sales of in game assets." I know many people have written off this Rplanet completely, but I think there's still some upwards potential for passive gain. Now I wish I didn't sell millions of aether for dirt cheap price.
