Here's the definition: "Democratic backsliding, also called autocratization, is the decline in the democratic characteristics of a political system, and is the opposite of democratization" The article tries to give some not so convincing reasons for the process in general. But I think the real reason is the world is getting prepared to the next great reshuffle and reset.
